Question

Theo,

no - it was sent to me via my 'scoobynet' email address. My profile has recently changed and therefore the email addy held by the sidc is out of date.

(THIS DOES NOT IMPLY THAT SCOOBYNET SENT THE MESSAGE - maybe just that the SIDC got my latest address from my profile - there is no mail forwarding set up from my old email account so this is the only explanation for this)

It would also be good if somebody could clarify if this means I am also banned from paying for my employees (and other clients employees) to attend a Palmersport experience day at the facility using their own vehicles and instructors.

Can you offer any more details regarding this Pete ?

I think its quite important as several large clients could be interested in such a day - this would obviously generate considerable revenue.

I fully appreciate the webmasters concerns over the direction of this thread.

To save me reading through pages of threads, could someone please tell me why 28 people have been banned from Bedford?
Surely not for voicing a opinion on a internet bbs
This isn't real life you know

dba,
this from the email that was sent to people who have been banned:

Jonathan Palmer gave the club a list of people that would not be welcome back to his circuit, due to comments they made on Scoobynet.

So that could explain why you were banned.

From the email it says that Pete will email those he can to tell them they have been banned, if some did not have vaild or provide email addresses then this could be why they have not yet been notified.

John - I think the problem was that some of the comments made were somewhat insulting to Mr Palmer and therefore, due to this, he has decided to ban these people from attending trackdays at Bedford Autodrome.

I haven't been banned, but if I had been, I'd be writing to every motoring magazine and TV program about this situation and encouraging the other 28 people on the list to do the same.

By the way, nice to see that Palmersport have launched their road car in a blaze of publicity.

Ian, as you know my comment was tongue in cheek (you even stopped smoking in the mean time ) but from the rest of your post I can surely see and even understand the concern Simon has here. Don't want to jump to conclusions mind, but it seems there has been a potential (alledged) misuse of this resource.

Can not answer your question about your customers, sorry

Pete, I know we can not demand explanations etc, and I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason for all this, but IMHO, it would be good to hear from you, if even to debunk myths etc.

Question is, what happens if someone does turn up at bedford, even to spectate? Is security going to make them leave?

I AM one of those rotary powered cars. And the fun should be ready for next year.

I have replied on the SIDC forums.

But I still cannot work out how they got my name??? He made a great day at fecking up everyones fun, didnt think he was that clever.

I also cannot work out why if the Mazda's at that day caused such a problem, why am I ok to attend other days with SIDC? One for the SIDC forum I think.

Well, well. Guess who else is banned ?

A couple of points.

I did not attend the day but did voice an opinion on "that thread"

My username on Scoobynet does not include my personal name.
My profile does not include my personal name.
My email address does not include my personal name.

How then, can I be personally banned ?
What is to stop me taking my stickers off the car and attending under my real name ?

(Unless the SIDC are complicit in this and have released private information to the person in question.........surely not !) :O

Thumbs down

This is quite simply unbelievable, like everyone else I had just about forgotten about this whole fiasco. As it is this has just brought it back to the front of everyones memories. Definitely a strange marketting ploy, I've heard that there is no such thing as bad publicity, but can't say I see that point of view myself.

Oh well, guess I'll have another year of telling any car club / forum (and I'm on a few ) that are planning a track day at Bedford what happened. Strangely none of the ones I've mentioned it to in the past have gone on to book a track day there

I really can't believe the SIDC are even considering going back there, but hey I'll keep that post for their forum.

On a positive note I'll just have to keep my self imposed ban on attending events there going, so I've got an extra couple of db to play with on the exhaust front.

DJ - Very good point there, if personal information was being released, and I very much doubt it was, then would it not contravene the data protection act?

Love the Bedford 28

question for those who know they are banned, if you were un-banned (is that a word?) would you actually go back to Bedford?

Just to bring a refreshing change to proceedings (which are extremely interesting to the neutral observer) I wasn't there, have never been there, have never posted about this and aren't banned. Can anyone lend me their car and pay for me to go??

Actually, the real reason for posting is simply to ask - the original threads were almost a full year ago.. how come this has happened now? Has this topic been going on the SIDC website (which I've never been to and I'm not a member of, even though I am an SID) for a year??

I ask only for information. If someone would be kind enough to post it here I'm sure there are others wondering..

Markus, I luv driving Bedford GT circuit. But due to the fact the organiser *COULD* change the noise limits without warning on the day, would stop me attending in either the RX-7 or the scoob.

Not now, no I wouldn't. I did nothing wrong, I was an attendee on that day, I posted my view of it as fairly as I could. I considered how the day had gone compared to other tracks I've attended (you could say I've done a few, my car has done over 10,500 track miles in the last 25 months). I insulted no-one, its not my style and tried to be as objective as possible.

If that results in me being banned, fair enough. I do feel sorry for people, such as Davyboy, who, other than for the fact he owns 2 Porsches, doesn't deserve to be banned.

I am an SIDC member,I am a proud Scoobynet member,I have paid for track events at Bedford and of course i owned an Impreza at the time,so i believe I did have a valid opinion, but I'm afraid i am only a well known track driver in my own head, where of course i am also faster than Schumacher, but i appreciate the exultation all the same

Unless the SIDC are complicit in this and have released private information to the person in question
That would be a breach of the data protection act. If they were to do that, they would be in bother with the Data Protection Commissioner.

This is, however, speculation and without proof does not help things.

Danny, I like bedders too, never actually driven there, just spectated, but I said as soon as I turned up there, if there was a track I would have done, it would have been bedders.

I think it is the status of the track that is the reason why SIDC wants to go back, it really is a good track.

Theo,

I never did manage to kick the habbit of smoking. The stress from my clients continue to ensure that I need a good blast of nicotine to get me thru a typical day.

I know you ment no offence. But it did prompt me to discover how the message was in fact sent to me.

All the best good buddy. 10-4 kill all hippies

Ian.

Buzz - it's come up now as the SIDC are now trying to organise their first track day in over a year, and this track day is to be held a Bedford.

Buz, that's what bemuses me. Why wait the year? As I said, why not just tell the offenders that it was full if they tried to book? Or tell them they were on a reserve list. So much simpler.

PS Yeah, you can borrow my car to go there, no problem. You might want to put a bag over your head though, its a 1.4 Skoda And its very slow!

No Buzz, nothing has been mentioned about this anywhere i have seen in a very long time.

To answer the question Markus, No, i wouldn't, unless someone specifically asked me to give them some help. I wont spend my money with Dr Palmers organisation in future.

Just a quick note, as what I said, or didn't say, and whether I meant what it said and so on and so forth, generated a page of posts....

I might not agree with the reasoning behind JPs actions, at beford or with SIDC, he is within his rights to ban whom he chooses, and ultimately we have to respect that, even if we don't agree with it.

I do feel that I was banned on the basis of the spirit of my posts, why should JP want to entertain someone he knows he doesn't like?

It is what it is, and could not have been any other way, for that is the way of things.

Thanks for the answer John. I think that quite a few people would feel exactly the same.

It would be very nice to see Mr Palmer post on this thread, and to hear his views as to why exactly he decided to ban people for thier comments, it does seem a little strange to me. If people were invited back, they'd be paying him money (indirectly) to go, so therefore he'd be in a win/win situation, people had insulted him and his facility, but are still paying money to go there, thus at the end of the day, what's happened? a bit of name calling and still he gets money?

Maybe my head is not screwed on right and I've got it all wrong.

Mods, once again, if my comment is not constructive, please delete

TaviaRS, i think it is correct that the SIDC are up front with us on the fact people are being banned, to hide behind the "we are full" excuse is not very honest, so in this respect i think they did the right thing.

What is wrong though, is Bedford leaving it to the SIDC to inform us we are banned. I have receieved nothing directly from Bedford to inform me of this and it is Bedfford who are banning us, not the SIDC.
