Star Wars new Game... what a SCAM !
if you've got a £35 game, with £20 of subs, then costing £15 for the whole package (cd duplicating, cases, msnual printing, shops cut etc) is hardly bad. If you don't like it, don't buy it, if enough people don't this sales model will fail an no doubt they'll try something else.
As for planetside being one long battle? Not really, the battle across a contintent can rage for hours, but when you've fought enemies coming in from two sides of your continent and pushed them off there's a certain sense of accomplishment, much more so that your side winning yet another map in a limited rotation on Some Other Game.
If someones finding it boring they're probably just following the zerg and dying like yet another grunt or they've not even done the VR training so they're BR0 running round in their PJ's trying to kill people with their supressor, you can't just jump into these games and win, you need to do the training, get your battle rank up and use the first 6 CP you get for something useful, the find a squad (quite simple) and follow the leaders direction and if they're any good you should be in the action and accomplish something useful.
There's so much you can do and the tactics involved in retaking a whole continent (or attacking one) are massive. I had massive fun last night as part of one of the biggest tank storms I've seen 25+ tanks, 3 crew each, stormed onto our home contintent to reinforce the people already fightning there and obliterated the enemy.
The only thing this game needs is a GTA:VC like garage for me to store jacked Vanguards in

you can't actually pirate swg's .... but o well.
Untill you've played a MMORPG you just can't appreciate the scale of it. Yes a normal game is £35 but thats it. It wont change too much. (Ok Half life was an exception but thats about it). MMORPG's are constantly changing games adding new features and adding content as well as ongoing story lines (ok SWG hasn't really started yet but hey).
I think the bottom line is dont knock it until you've tried it

Halflife 2 is gonna have THREE purchase options.
Buy it at retail, play game for free online.
Buy it online, play it online for free.
Skip the purchase and, instead, sign up for a monthly subscription which will give you access to game for whatever period of time that you choose to subscribe.

BEWARE SUBSCRIPTION GAMES!!!!
I bought Earth & Beyond (EA Games) about 18 months ago - you're forced to give credit card details etc to play (annoying as they could ask for these when the 'free' time is up and if I like it I'll pay, but I thought.....)
Dreadful game, never played it - was annoyed to see monthly charges coming through on my credit card statement. I e-mailed them (following the instructions with the game to cancel the subscription and via their website). No response, charges continued. 2 more e-mails before I wrote to my credit card company. They have refunded the lot but amusingly the charges still occur each month (before being credited back on the statement).
I wonder when they'll get in touch.....?
Moral of this is - don't pay until you've played. i.e. don't go near a game that involves doing this.
