Angry

Hmmm, this is not very encouraging news. Whoever suggested the idea of talking to RAC's comms Director to see if they can modify their processes would seem to be a good way to go (especially if they become aware that the story may leak out to the press if they don't shift their butts).

At circa £120 per annum I would expect anyone to be cheesed off if their system wasn't working in time of need.

Not a good story to hear.

FWIW, I had NavTrak ProActive on my Scooby. It was at TSL one day for some work and they swapped it from one ramp to another, a distance of above 10 metres, all inside the workshop.

Within two minutes I had NavTrak on the phone telling me my car had moved without being disarmed. Can't ask for more than that....

Should we be discussing this on the net?

well thankgfully we are as i wasnt aware of these problems/issues.

I have been meaning to call them to check if its working ok as its a necessity on my insurance, therefore void if not fully functionally, this has given me a kick up the *** now as i have otehr issues to discuss with them - u may have seen my post in general.

i have heard from 2 other RB5 owners that their cars were towed away for repairs etc and redeived calls to ask if they knew they were on the move...

cheers

Thumbs up

After reading this tread... and panicing! I phoned RAC Trackstar and agree with the last reply, that the personnel were VERY understanding and extremely professional, they performed a test (after a few security questions!) 'there and then' and gave me the vehicle location straight away.

Just for your info.

I've email "Tracker" and they have quoted me £80 to test my installation - but they didn't say what the test entails. I'll give them a bell for more details... Will post what they tell me.

Just brought a 2001 WRX and had to have a tracker fitted to it for insurance. The dealer I purchased it from suggested the 'Tracker Monitor' and arranged to have it fitted.
Unfortunatly within the first month of owning the car I had 3 electrical failures where somthing pulled enough current throught the indicator circuit to blow the fuses for those and hazards etc.
Each time the car was recovered and Tracker phoned each time to check why the car was moving.
Each time they didn't bother to ask any security questions - so if my mobile had been in the car when it had been nicked the thief would have been laughing!!

After 3 weeks in the dealer the electrical fault was finally found and guess what ... it was the tracker. Now because this is not technically part of the car, it wouldn't be covered under warranty so I could have been responsible for the costs. The dealer however decided that they would not charge me given they had supplied the car and organised the fitting.

But now I'm not sure what to do about the tracker - the dealer say they have resolved the problem and it was due to the unit having been poorly fitted, but I guess I now need to get the tracker engineer out to check that the dealer hasn't buggered it up, I can see this ending up in a loop ....!

Like everybody else I begin to wonder if ther isn't a better way...!

IMHO, I'm not convinced that trackers will help you get your car back if it's stolen by a pro. They are too easy to find/disable/jam if you know what you are doing (there are very few places the antenna for the GPS types can be fitted where it can see the sky!). Having said that I still have one because most cars are stolen by opportunists and/or mindless thugs (it was also insurance requirement, but I would probably have got one, even if it wasn't).

I have called the RAC for a test track roughly once a month, and every time the car is serviced, or I have been messing around with the electrics etc. Given that the subscription is £120/yr, that's the very least they can do!

When my system was first fitted, it took them 6 days to get it to work and, whilst their customer services people were polite, they were ineffective, and never returned my calls. Not very confidence inspiring!

what would happen if u drove your car 2 a hill switched it off and let it roll down and stoped at the bottom and waited 4 a call should this trigger it off as it would be a good way 2 test if it was working properley and if they dont call then get on the phone and ask them 2 test it

Depends how far you moved the car I suspect. I might find a big hill and try it!

Lack of brake and steering assistance will probably cause you to crash half way down! At least the recovery crew will have a good fix on your location

It should activate the minute the car moves without the immobiliser being de activated, thats what they say on their websites anyway, how it knows that it has moved with the immobilser still activated is beyond me.

therefore, in theory, if u rolled down a hill with the immobilser activated u should get a call from them asking if u know of the cars movements.

i have heard from a few owners if they dont use their car much the tracker system does tend to drain the battery.

Had my car on the back of a flatbed recently, it took about 15 mins for RAC to phone me, which equates to about 20 miles from where it was picked up. Not brilliant, but it worked!
