Cool

Well thanks for all the replies peeps, I have made my decision and last night bought an Xbox with a second controller, an advanced scart lead, the dvd playback kit and 3 games, plugged it into my Yamaha DSP-5 amp and bobs yer uncle. Great sound from 5.1. Just need to get a laser gun and an optical lead now and I will be well sorted.

I feel sorry for the neighbours

Strengths & Weaknesses of each console here
Don't forget to register your xbox on xbox.co.uk - I think you can download manuals from there as well once registered.

Scoobywont - tell me, tell me!

where did you get the mod choip from, how much, is it hard to fit etc?

also, anyone bought the VGA adapter yet? - is it worth buying? (I could do with it running on my 19" monitor as it'll be easier to connect into the broadband that way )

It allows you to change the hard disk to a larger size and allows yopu to "back-up" games to the hard disk

Wink

Right then Wurzel:

Characters are based into 3 categories:

Bashers - bust through cracked doors and walls and all enemies and opponents are bashable targets

Dashers - can speed up steep slopes that other characters can't

Gliders - can soar extra distance over a pitfall or trap and evade enemies by taking flight.

Characters who collect 10 Green Meteor Chunks transform into Tribrids and have all 3 abilities.

There are various game modes:

Adventure - Play through the story level by level.
Versus - Race through a single level with up to 4 human players
Sign Up - Register a Player name to keep a player record of game progress

Game Goals:

Beat all players to the finish line
Use special abilities to shave time
Find special ability routes to get the jump on opponents
Collect 10 Green meteor fragments as mentioned before
Perform stunts to increase energy and get turbo boosts
Use powerups to delay opponents
Work toward Status Decals to unlock more characters and levels

Screen:

Top left - Juice bar and power up globe - former shows energy you have to fuel special abilities, the cola gets this back up. Teh latter shows the latest power up you have collected and you can use it by pressing Y - you can't collect another until the one you have is used.

Top middle - green meteor chunks collected

Top right - elapsed race time

Bottom left - status bar - shows all 4 players positions simultaineously

Bottom Right - your position

Now and then the number of attacks and stunts you've made flashes up too.

Controls:

Right trigger - bash
Left trigger - dash
white - centre camera behind character
black - zoom camera in/out
y - use power up
b - attack
x - powerslide (while turning), stunt in air, rail slide
a - Jump, double tap to glide
left thumbstick - Move and steer character
right thumbstick - swirl when using some equipment/aim certain powerups
start - pause/unpause

Powersliding: Press X to powerslide while turning, you'll end with a turbo boost to shave seconds off your time. they leave smoke trails that intensify from yellow to orange. Hold and then release X or press button a during the orange trail for the most turbo boost after a slide

Stuntz: Pull these off to increase energy. Press A to jump, press and hold X at the top of the jump, swirl the left thumbstick to get air spins. Numbers flash on the screen as you complete spins, 360, 720, 1080 and madstunt. You'll get energy for each spin, perform multiple spin combos to increase the reward. Land facing forward (left thumbstick forwards) and get a turbo boost which increases with the number of spins. Combine stuntz with a rail grind for pro stuntz and extra speed.

You can also get turbo boost from a turbo pad.

Directional arrows point you in the right direction, skill paths may work well depending on if you pick the right one for your special ability! They are marked with sparkling special ability markers - learn where they are!

Switches can be stepped on or jumped through to activate something on the track, bouncers send you higher when you jump on them, what out for crumbling edges etc on platforms, and there are traps scattered about with TNT etc, so try and avoid them!

Powerups:

Psycho Chicken - guided missile takes out whoever is in front of it

Blob Bombs - splits into glowing chunks, use right thumbstick to aim.

Bouncy Fruit - ricochets of surfaces until contacting an opponent then Blam - aim before firing if you wish

Ribbon of Pain - lay a trail as you run, any opponent contacting the ribbon get knocked on their butt!

Disco Ball - Gain a speed boost and invincibility

Freeze All - freeze all other players in place

Steal Chunks - steal 5 meteor chunks from 1st place runner

Steal Energy - as above for energy

Steal Weapon - as above for weapon

Equipment:

Hand over hand - press a to jump on a bouncer, your character automatically grabs the overhead rail, press forward on left thumbstick to swing hand over hand, swirl the right thumbstick rapidly to move faster and faster.

Zip Line - stand on a glowing target on the path, press a to jump and grab the line, swirl thumbstick as above to slide faster

Rail Grind - Press a to jump onto rail, press x to latch on and grind

Catapult - press a to jump into basket, swirl right thumbstick to pull the catapult back, press a, b, x or y and watch!

Swimming - Use left thumbstick to paddle through water - use right swirling to speed swin

Ladder Climbing - get close to bottom of ladder, hold left thumbstick in direction you want to climb, swirl right to go faster!

Phew - thats enough for me typing all that out - me fingers are knackered now! Hope that helps

Cheers
Neil
