I sooo want a milling machine..

Welding looks nice.. cheating on thick metal though

Did you buy the welder or just hire it??

Why the recess for the O ring on the reservoir and not the plate?

three separate shops Big Bear,
Welding / Fabrication shop,
Machine shop,
Workshop, with a bit of everything in it.

To put the recess in the plate I would have had to dowel it onto the lathe,
I suppose I could have put the plate on the turntable, just seemed a little small and fiddly to do so.
Reservoir clamped down nice and easy.

eanie, meanie, miney, mo.

David,
Ok I'll find some thin stuff tomorrow and have a bash at that,
I don't ever remember welding up anything thin before....

Oooh here's some salt, put it that nasty looking cut

Been practicing my thinwall this morning
ally in the foreground, stainless in the background.

**** knows what all these ***** do, just kept twiddling till, instead of melting the tungsten tip off the end of the torch, it actually started to weld.

He is jealous of your workshop tools thats all.

Looks\like your thin wall needs a bit of tidying up, perhaps David could do it.

Some Major deep breaths required and have another go at inlet pipe.

Only had the afternoon to work on it, as I went to a scooby meet in Bristol to "catch up"
Non the less, I'm in a little better mood now.

resurrected the inlet pipe.

your manifold looks a bit like mine now!

I didn't open the heads up much in the inlet passage until I can get manifold on assembled engine.

Nice work, inlet pipe looks great, despite the brief aerodynamic testing.

Paul, i have to agree. I start with best intentions of taking pics as often as i can, but the minute you come across something awkward, you forget to take pics.

Much respect to people like Andy, David and yourself (22b).

Andy, you and David are giving me the motivation to alter my FMIC pipework, you just dont know it

Andy, judging by the power steering pics, you are locating the tank near the bulkhead?

Did you read Harvey's comments about having it there?

His seems to run better with it in the STI7 location (where the carbon cannistor is)

Andy,

Have made my plate exactly the same as you execpt I am going to use a braided hose with a banjo fitting and a couple off copper washers...

Goal is not not use any jubilee clips on any pipes that could leak and cause problems

Looks very nice..

Can tell the difference between someone that does it as a job, and someone that does it as a hobby.. (Thats a compliment!)

Paul,
The photo's are as much for my self as anyone else,
Much easier to do a thread on here, than it is a web page of my own,
nice record to keep too

Yes 10mm spacers, they were manufactured as 15mm but bypass valve on throttle body looked far too close to the bonnet.
don't fancy aquiring a bonnet bulge after the first clutch dumping session
consequently, machined down to 10mm.. + 2 gaskets.

David,
water pipe? not sure which picture your looking at if it's not in place at the moment, it's probably in the boot
will no doubt be re-instated at a later date
don't think I'm having to modify any water pipes....yet (tempting fate )

OOps missed a question...

Steve,
Nope, power steering reservoir is being located between inlet pipe and alternator in front of manifold,
I've decided, due to the phase II manifold being a funny shape, it would mean serious work to get it front entry.... so I'm not bothering
any more lag and I'll just up the NOS jet

ahh ! excellent, Subaru have my inlet manifold gaskets in at last.
<trots off to collect>
great! I can finally fit my inlet manifold.
longer bolts, check!
washers, Check !
gaskets, check!
spacers, Check!
ok, i'll just nip up the bolts...!!"SNICK"!!
oh **** ... don't tell me I've sheared a bolt off in the head.....

Nope still tight, what was it then.........

Oh well... we have the technology

But maybe not the finesse....yet.
still could be worse, at least I get to practice

Andy
