New Engine / DriveTrain Project
I've gota say ... WELL DONE DAVID ! & the rest of the team (way too many to mention - but you all know who they are!)
really great to see the car & the team there ... was an amazing effort on all parts getting it reading in time.
Rev limiter was understandably low, but generated emmence audience awes & interest when you floored it up the strip ..
flames ... black ****, pops BANGS, more flames !

was well worth the 5hr trip just to see your couple of runs.
shame about the 'niggles' & the melted bits .. but didnt look too bad as you say .. so after a well earned rest I'm sure it will be up on the road again real soon !
some of the comments from Paul & David about what it felt like when that turbo spooled made their weiry eyes light up ...
it was ALL worth it guys !
Well DONE !
Steve
p.s. especially well done to Stephen for his runs (come on that turbo!
) and for his rope pulling services!

Might be worth mentioning this...
Anyone still ooop north would be more than welcome at the Buckles Inn tonight on the A64, which is close to Elvington. See Northern for more details.
And now back to normal service
Cheers,
Nick.

Hi All
It was a fantastic site seeing it running and watching it go up the stip yesterday. Hats off to all of the people who worked on this car and it's so cool that this car was home built unlike the evos & skylines that the scoobs are being compared too in general at the moment
It was very nice and a pleasure to meet both David and Steven yesterday and I would like to thank Stevens wife for introducing me to David (pass it on please Steven
)
You all should give yourselves a huge pat on the back now
Paul

I would just like to say what a pleasure it was to work on project Wallis.
There has been mention of late nights and midnight oil, but I don't think many people understand that it wasn't just friday and saturday night but a whole week of working 18 hour days flat out finishing with an all night running in session. Pat (gawd bless him) was even mapping in his sleep as I watched his fingers try and tap away on the closed laptop at 5am.
Having driven the car to run it in (and pick the wife up from down south at 3.30am) and again for the initial mapping, I can honestly say the potential for this car is immense. To put it into perspective the car made a 115mph terminal with 4 gear changes running a held boost of 10psi on normal unleaded petrol with no octane booster. It has postive manifold pressure at 2000rpm which makes the engine feel like it has a much smaller turbo, boost is going to come in fully at around 4300 at a guess at which point it makes the most awesome noise.
I have a load of stage by stage pictures taken over the week while I skived off work using the camera as an excuse, will post later.
But here is a taster for now.

Actually the mis-spelling on the TOTB entry list on the web page for David!
Thought you started that Fuzz, <sorry no, was from 22b! > with the Wallace and Grommit pics earlier on in this thread?
Did you see on paulpalmer's pics ... a red 5 door ( P20's I guess ) with & Grommit on the tailgate?
And his comment a page or 2 ago about hoping to run lane by lane with David?
Means...
Wallace & Grommit
Cracking toast, Grommit!
<edit to add the TOTB stuff, and started on 22b.com not from Fuzz!>

Without getting political...
THe supplied Autronic ECU was specced to drive coils direct, wasn't going to happen. Tried with subaru ignitor, weird outputs that looked to have a 1.4ms dwell instead of 2.4ms, not enough time to charge for spark. Also the ECU seemed to want different settings from the manual to get any sort of iginition waveform at all. We put the MSD CDI amp on, and could spark it manually, but not from the ECU.
To cut a long story short, the ECU actually used on the weekend was a plain vanilla Autronic (ignition wise)directly driving an MSD CDI ignition amp, suddenly we could get 1 inch sparks.
Thanks goes out to the geezer that fetched the ECU, he didn't even stay for a drink (girlie waiting in car?) we wouldn't have run without it.
