John,

Is it the 1/2 channel version you are using?

And is it as easy to mount as the diagram on the page shows?

Thanks,

Yes, just interrupt the two wires from the ECU to the coils. Connect power and ground to the ignition system supply. Connect a manifold pressure feed like a boost gauge. Connect the knock sensor - it can share the knocklink sensor fine.

I'm quite interested myself. Does it have an advance strategy, or just it just retard until the knock sensor goes quiet and then sit there?

Only retards dynamically.

Gauge pod arrived - thanks Jamie, ribbon cable to fix ICE arrived, will be doing a bit this afternoon. Still working on MAP conversion - need to get a 1uF capacitor, and consider a buffer circuit.

Clicking from front right CV joint a bit less, quoted about £70 for an exchange, getting prices on exchange driveshaft as well. Is a CV joint swap a nightmare?

5 speed gearbox out, 6 speed awaited, water injection on its way from John Felstead. I hope the organic clutch is up to the job. Driving a Pug 406 again but gives time to sort out all the details.

Considering an Ion turbo, but I want to keep the really good bottom end response. For a road car I think Mark (EMS) is right on the smaller turbos often going very well. With stock internals the USDM revs to 7000 (not 7500) so I don't feel comfortable raising this to suit a higher up power band. Like Andy and T-uk I was impressed by what sg72's Type R did with the right gearing and a higher rev limit on a sizeable turbo for a 2.0. T-uk has suggested going for a bigger turbo only if I am willing to change the rods and pistons and rev to 8000 and I think he is right, and this should suit the 6 speed nicely (UK ratios).

CV joint swap is very easy... even more so as the gearbox is out.

remove driveshaft retaing nut, remove driveshaft..
remove CV joint, put new boot on driveshaft and new clip, replace CV joint, attach CV boot.

Driveshaft nut will come off with brakes on if you were wondering

Thumbs up

Hi John.
Nice to hear you and T-UK. are in full agreement as usual.LOL!
Couple of things.
Firstly I am running a Magnex uppipe from headers to Turbo TD05/06/20G. (Hi Andy!).
Secondly May be needing new gearbox sooner than I thought.(Hi Andy LOL!).
I hear Yours may fit as DCCD. bolts on back (Any thoughts. Kind of liked your gearing. Blasphemy? Price?).
Do you think The ION route will allow you to acheive your aims or could you end up over and chasing a new potential?

Steve.

The larger turbo might run it cooler, but I have to keep some reliability in it if I am using it daily. I should stick to my targets. It will be mid-Jan before the six speed is in and the car back on the road.

Not quite true we were "debating" whether the difference between the two was only in the midrange or at the top as well. Your car scared me more than I would like to admit sg72

not quite jb.

it was civil until I said there was nothing between the two cars when SG's hit 5500rpm. you then spat the dummy and only accepted it once you had checked with " ya daddy"

Day 16 of the car being off the road due to clean breakage of a single tooth at its base from 4th gear on my gearbox after three weeks use after running in.

http://www.johnbanks.dsl.pipex.com/LPgearkit.htm

I am still waiting for the refund on this, no point in fitting another as it didn't last any better than a standard UK box would have done.

Received the UK six speed box and bits this morning which arrived within 24 hours of the order. Now that is service.

Will need a transmission jack to fit it as it is a heavy brute.

Then will need running in of the new box. Whilst doing that I can finish my MAF>MAP project which is ready for trying on the car.

I have a week's holiday next week to sort everything out

Hopefully I have now found out all the bits that will break?!

just ordered a transmission lift which should be here at the end of the week.

should make life easier when we do the clutch in 6/8 weeks when the roads dry up a bit

box looks bloody big

what are you doing for a ****?, doubt the momo or standard classic will work.

Purely a guess based on actually lifting them, i would guess at the 6speed weighing upto 20kg more! Not sure on exact weight 100 to 150kg??

They arent that heavy IMO

Yes,there is a need for another gearknob,as it has liftup reverse.

On min we used a regular garagelifter, but i had the car on stands, then just lift up the gearbox with the braket mountet on,so it´s easy to put the bolts in and this will hold the gearbox up

JB,did you get the komplete shiftlinkade or are you going to fabricate something??.

When i had my car on the weight it was 20kg heavy´er then with the 5speed.
