I still can't figure out why are you lot comparing those two cars?!?!?!?!?!?
Impreza vs GT-4 ST205 vs EVO vs GTI-R vs Escort Cosworth
sounds more fair.
The MR2 is a COMPLETELY different car to the Impreza.

The CT-26 turbo on the MR2 is big but that does not make it better than the scoob... the later scoobs did have a smaller turbo TD04, mine (MY95 WRX) which is the TD05 is a bit bigger, and my car pulls past 6000rpm no problem, my old celica GT4 with a CT-26 however was all out of puff by 5000rpm..!!
I would say there would not be much in it between your car and his to 60, you would proably have the edge though as you can floor it when setting off..!4wd..

Yep I suspect they would be as quick as an impreza in a straight line. The problem is that they are mid engine RWD and when they go they go quickly especially in the wet. Guy I know wrote a non turbo one off in a matter of weeks of getting it, back end came round on him so quick when it broke away he was just a passenger. I have had the backend slide on oil/diesel/water under power and the scoob was just so predictable and drama free. Great car the MR2 but I doubt I would have as much confidence in driving it.
BTW my dad has a V6 Mondeo and it definitely wont live with the RA .

Hmm, this old chestnut again
All these stories of MR2's losing it all the time, and being difficult to drive I find hard to believe.
I've had my non-turbo MR2 for 2 years in April, and whilst I admit it can sometimes give a rear out kick in very wet conditions, in the dry it sticks to the road like superglue, and in normal wet conditions is very easy to control when sliding.
It is my first RWD car, has 174bhp and I dont hang about in it, yet so far (touch wood) I havent stuffed it, or even "nearly" stuffed it. Famous last words with this weather.
Never quite understand the fear people have of a car oversteering - it can be great fun.
Heres a standard MR2 Turbo(245ps) vs Standard WRX (275ps) - figures quoted at the start.
Not much in it at the line, though the camera angle tries to bias the Scoob.

DW agreed like a lot of these A versus B threads, the cars are suited for different purposes and different priorites.
The guy I know who lost his was a mark 2 K reg I think so may have had the early suspension. Didnt do a lot of damage to be fair, bit of panel damage, wheel and suspension stuff but at that age they are cheap(ish) to buy and trade values are low the insurance sadly wrote it off.

Reading the thread again the only thing a find amusing is that the MR2 turbo isnt a UK car ???? and only available as a grey import. The figures 5.2 and 14 are impressive against a stock standard UK and roughly about the same. Tiff in TG November 97 in an MY97 208bhp UK impreza got 0-60 in 5.2 and 0-100 in 14.5 and a quarter in 13.9 (98mph terminal speed).
Surely we should be measuring apples with apples so as my grey import RA is the same weight as an MY97 (about 1240kgs) but has a short close ratio gearbox and 276bhp I think it should be slightly quicker than an MR2 turbo . Like the MR2 turbo figures are difficult to come by but seem to average about 4.5 to 60 and 12 to 100.
