The GR Yaris has a manual gear box? Long gone.

It's gonna be an absolute weapon! To be fair for the road or casual track days a gr yaris or a sorted classic impreza will be just as much fun if not more at a fraction of the price. But nice to see the passion for these cars and what they can do on a big budget!

I don't really understand the purpose of this car. I get that it's supposed to be a 'restomod' but surely that could be done at a faction of the price.
It doesn't look any different to a wide body type r. Perhaps that's the point but for that money I'd expect some kind of differentiator, maybe a carbon rear wing or something.
It's not spectacularly fast or progressive technologically. Surely the idea of a restomod is to take an old car and add modern functionality. Where's the hybrid power or curs system or computer wizardry you find in modern supercars at that price?
If it's just a homage to the original car then why not just rebuild them with all new/refurbished parts and sell them at a fifth of the cost like the MST mk1 & 2 escorts?
Perhaps I'm totally missing something or perhaps I'm just old and grumpy nowadays!
Apologies for the rant.

Electric is the way forward if we like it or not. When you see cars like that it makes me wonder if the tipping point is closer than we think…

The way forward lol tipping point. It's modernised version of a classic. Well done for Prodrive making it. They could of sat on there bump like Subaru and watch there history burn. Instead they acted like Toyota and carried on producing exciting performance cars.

Toyota have created a range of engaging modern cars that are AFFORDABLE. Prodrive have revamped and old car, added nothing groundbreaking and are selling it for a price that 99.9% of the worlds population can not afford.

Prodrive is NOT Subaru and they are simply commemorating an anniversary of their 1st WRC car (and likely pocketing an amount of ££ in the meantime) / David Richards has been many things over the years but he knows how to run a successful company and make money......
a GR Yaris was only originally designed for one purpose (for which it was ultimately not required) - to homologate a different shell for the WRC championship
Toyota made it anyway on the basis of what appeared to be a publicity drive / advertising stunt and it accidentally turned into a sales success.........

Prodrive have done something that any good business would do, they’ve seen the price rises in the likes of the 22b and have cashed in on it. Id imagine they already had most of the tooling for their own bespoke parts, and the rest of the build is “off the shelf” motorsports products by the looks of it.
Do I admire it…yes. Do I think it’s worth the money…no. But that doesn’t matter, because they’ve all been sold, so they’ve achieved what they set out to do.
I will say this though, once you look past the poor early dash and fairly bland interior, you realise you are buying a product from the company that actually built the championship winning cars of old, that’s pretty special in itself.

My point exactly. Well put. They have also boosted the imagine. And have taken advantage of what Subaru haven't.

Prodrive haven't got the budget or the manufacturing capability that Toyota have, to produce a new Cheap Impreza.
I'm glad Prodrive have made this. I wouldn't be buying one of these if it was £50,000. So the price is irrelevant. At least it's been made.
Subaru could be making some amazing Impreza's right now, for good money and selling them all over retail price. But there not.

but they do, its simply that they are not sold in Europe because of emission laws and also partly because of a falling market share.........
Subaru UK is the sole importer of Subaru BUT is not a part of Subaru Japan and hence made up its own mind years back to chase SUV type market share............
take a look Stateside or in Japan to see what Europe has been missing out on

Knowing the fact I'll never have that sort of money I tried to stay away from looking at the info of it but after watching the goodwood clips of it was really impressive its even got us tempted to sell our bugeye sti and do a 22b styled classic it's probably the only way I could get close to a car like it haha

Not seen any new Impreza's imported from Japan?
I know Subaru USA have now ditched the STI now, and are only making a WRX then finishing the Impreza.
Are Japan still making them?
