Hey all! Hope your well. Anymore good memories of the old 90’s classics? I use go to the paradox night club where my friend died driving back in a xr3i. Awful memories but on the other hand fantastic memories of the Astra gsi, Astra gte..cav Sri which was fast as f..k! I wish I was back then. The 90’s due to the music, cars and life generally. Nova gte, corsa gsi.

Great thread, full of nostalgia and prompted me to sign-up!
New to the world of scooby ownership - just in process of purchasing a classic awd turbo, currently having it checked over by a specialist, but it's very low miles and 100% original UK car no mods anywhere (even has original stereo) so it just felt like something a bit special and something I wanted to own. But I have no clue about these cars so I expect I'll have plenty of questions.
My cars of old:
First car was a Truimph Vitesse 6 straight (2l 6 cylinder twin carb) - had negative camber at rear so back end would slide out at the slightest provocation. Not sure if it was fast or just terrifying.
Audi Coupe 2.2i (same as the quattro turbo but no wide wheel arches and no turbo - didn't feel slow thou) - remember chasing the odd Nova GTE and RS turbo in it, I think the GTE was a bit quicker (certainly up towards 100) and the RS turbo was a lot quicker.
Dad had an MR2 (first shape one). Wanted to spin on anything other than dry roads but looked the part.
Peugeot 405 MI16 - company car, made of paper and would dent just looking at it. Felt very quick thou
Saab 900 V6 - felt quick enough for the day... 4 speed auto box so probably wasn't.
Polo G40 - engine was running 180hp in a 800kg car, was mentally quick and could hold off a lot of so called faster cars up to ~100 before lack of torque kicked in. Exhaust was loud and people always wanted to race it which I was happy to oblige in. Remember the police telling me it was blooming quick after pulling me over for a chat. I blew this up leaving some jag for dead. Car would torque steer like a dog until 40 then calm down until 100. No brakes of any note and a ride you could interrogate a russian spy in, but it looked like your nans car so I loved it.
Currently have:
Mk1 Golf GTi (not quick by modern standards)
Then the Scooby Classic 2000 Turbo AWD when it arrives
The Daily's:
Wife has an Audi S1 (fast car, better than your usual Audi quick car even if it is a bit slower - might keep this one as I think it's a future classic)
and I have a A8 TDI (3.0) which is a surprisingly quick car (0-60 in a shade over 6 seconds in a 2 tonne car). Huge amounts of torque.

Two Q-car sleepers !
1) Agree with you 100% re the S1 as it won't happen again and in that usably sized package. Give it until 2035 though !
2) The A8 - yes I have an old A6 Allroad with the same engine, weight and a mild Revo remap, and (now the air suspension is fixed...) the fuel consumption / performance / comfort / kit / build is amazing for the age.
I have family friends with an RS6 Avant and have given them a lift a few times when eating out (so 2019), and he always comments on how the feel is as good as any current mainstream Audi.

😂😂😂 I’m a huge fan of the 90s classics and that’s never going to change. The 90’s as far as I’m concerned were great! But I absolutely love these cars like “First car was a Truimph Vitesse 6 straight” 😂 my mates mum had a rover v8 and it was like a funeral car but we looked at it as a v8 beast that could shift with the right driver 😂😂 not a boring funeral car

Some great cars in here. The GSi was always a beast of a badge back then. I’ve brought another Polo G40 (pics below) for my sins....arrives next week, very excited to be getting it, running circa 150bhp I think given the mods. Magazine tests at the time had these faster than the Corrado G60s despite VWs official figures

The first car I bought was a 1978 Mini that was re-registered as a Cooper S. 1275 GT engine and a fibreglass front end that came right off. Had a straight through exhaust and a glass-faced carburettor. The previous owner done all the work. Bloody loved that car but sadly after blowing the engine I had it in a garage to change engines and just before it was ready, the garage caught fire and it all went up in smoke. No pictures either well before phones with cameras. I was 18.
I then got an MG metro for a cheap bottle of brandy (£6) which was fun great handling but it was proper screwed up old banger that eventually leaked fumes in the cabin and it failed its MOT so I scrapped it.
Very brief time with a VW polo 1300 S, worst car I owned swore i'd never buy another VW again.
After a few years I got into Jap cars and never really looked back. First was a Honda Civic ESi which sadly got stolen just after I got new Fox alloy wheels on it. Then a Civic VTi 4 door saloon 160 bhp nice car but the ESi was so clean it was like new, bought it off a pensioner who had it from new.
Oh I did have an alfa (you have to have owned an Alfa if you're a car enthusiast - apparantly) It was a 146 Ti and was great had no issues but came to my senses and eventually bought my first Impreza - a 2000 turbo classic w reg. I got fed up with the clutch judder after a couple of years and decided to sell rather than spend money on it. I enjoyed my classic scooby but after buying my first Hawkeye Sti, I've loved the Hawk the most. Sold it 5 years ago and have had two Audi A1s in this time (company cars) until I recently bought another Hawkeye. That's my little story,

You’ve reopened old wounds there! I had an Alpha 156 about 15 years ago, kept it about 6 weeks, it had so many sensors it was always complaining about something not being right (even thou it was). Was a lovely car inside and quite nippy but felt like it was built entirely from the parts bin.
