That said, there are plenty of plagues/pandemics throughout history that have not originated in China.

Hasn’t stopped the fair weather bikers (aka ‘doners’ ) cracking the throttle on the twisties And the upsurge in MAML cyclists...today one thought it was a good idea to veer out to overtake another cyclist whilst I was already overtaking on a narrow road...not even a glance over the shoulder; Typical road biker...head down “in the zone”. If these type of folk carry on behaving like that the only zone they’ll be in is critical care at A&E or the Ambulance zone in the hospital car park as they be stuck in the back of the ambo as there are no free beds!
What part do they not understand that if you smear yourself down the tarmac...the hospital cannot treat you...and if they do, it could deny someone else of a bed that needs it as well.

Wuhan is now having a big party.
Great, that really takes the biscuit
Perhaps wait until rest of the world ok? That would have been nice

Blaming the Chinese for this is stupid! Approximately 1/7th of the worlds population lives in China, another 1/7th lives in India - There is a very high probability that anything would come out of one of those two countries!

Would you wait or just party on the first day you're allowed to?

Just read my post 6 times again. Cannot see one word in their blaming the Chinese. Or did I miss something ? I will read it again and check.
Anyone who fancies a bit of a party at the moment is disgusting

Apologies. Just very stressed like everyone at the moment

Everyone is frustrated at the moment. Don't forget we continued to party on while China was in lockdown, they've been restricted a lot longer than we have and with much stricter controls. You can't really begrudge them a party as life starts to return to normal. I for one won't be waiting for other countries to ease restrictions before I celebrate returning to normality!

Was interesting watching the Covid-19 Government bulletin yesterday, now that Boris and Cummings are out of the way, the Government admitted they could learn a lot from Germany's handling of the crisis.
Now today there is this https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-52212143
This was one of the first measures they introduced in my local area in Germany, now over four weeks ago, and only now are they trialing it in London
Here we have no access via the driver door on buses and no payment to the driver. If you have an electronic travel card, you're still supposed to use it to pay for your trips, but essentially, since closing the driver doors and access to the drivers, bus travel has been free. The number of buses has also only been reduced by as little as possible despite under utilisation in order to aid social distancing of passengers.

Another one pointed out locally was that the local Minor Injuries unit is now deserted with very few people turning up for things to be looked at. Now I get people are not doing their normal activities etc. but many of the aliments that people present themselves with at A&E etc would not stop because of home lock down. So where have all those idiots gone? They cost the NHS millions, if not hundreds of millions each year, yet all of a sudden they seem able to manage without visiting. This needs looking at when all this is over.

Couple years ago in 'peacetime' I had tresspassers on my property and a crazed meth head tried to get into the house at 3am by trying to kick the door in.
When there are so many crazy people armed and the crazies are getting even crazier, yes, I may even need to defend my home due to nutters coming for my pasta.

On the bright side, looks like admissions for corona are down in NY. On the downer side it looks like deaths for those in care already has jumped a bit.

Well, worst recession for donkey's years on its way.Unfortunately

Recession was always a given when you simply stop the economy. There are however no underlying economic grounds for a recession, so the chances are when we return to normal operation the economic rebound will be extremely quick. After being couped up for so long, the people, on the most part, will be saving money and are likely to go on a spending spree.
So yes, we technically have a recession, but not like a normal recession where both the build-up and recovery are slow.

Global debt mountain is a possible systemic issue, but what's a few hundred trillion dollars these days.
If global debt can sit at 350% of global GDP, then what difference if it's at 400%?
As above, I've a feeling the bounce back will be surprisingly quick, with the caveat that this is all resolved in the next few months, more uncertainty after that as the economic life support can only go on for so long.

There was a huge ebola outbreak over a year ago and that was contained due to no one travelling all over the world.

Be it Ebola, SARS, Swine Flu or whatever else, epidemics and pandemics can start anywhere. The wet market argument is pretty weak. Sure it may be a risky place for passing diseases to humans, but live animal markets are not exclusive to China. Every zoo or pet-shop around the world also or feeding the ducks at the local park or farmers at a cattle market. Anywhere where man has close contact to animals there is a risk of disease transference. Sure, China could get rid of its wet markets, and I'd be all in favour of that generally, but pandemics will still occur regardless.
China actually reacted very quickly and decisively this time. Far more quickly than it did with the SARS outbreak and China has been praised by the WHO for its openness and response to the outbreak. When you look at the number of cases and death toll in China, then they have certainly been very successful in containing it given their population of over a billion. There are already more deaths in the UK than in China!
This is a highly contagious disease spreading very quickly from person to person before someone is even aware they have it, making it almost impossible to contain. Ebola is not so easily transferred, hence Ebola outbreaks have been relatively easy to contain. The same was true of SARS and Swine Flu. China has done an amazing job of containing COVID-19 and limiting the spread, as has Germany. Iran, then Italy and Spain, followed by UK and USA have done a very poor job of containing it and, as a result, it continues to spread around the world.
If you're looking for blame, then Iran, Italy and Spain should shoulder much of the blame for ignoring the warnings coming from China and continuing life as normal. The UK and USA came later, but their ignorance to the problem and advice coming from others means they also should take some blame. Germany, along with Switzerland, Austria and most Eastern European countries listened to the warnings and acted quickly and decisively to confine the spread and the results are quite clear to see in the number of deaths in those countries.
Its human nature to apportion blame on someone else, but often you are as much to blame as anyone else!
