Uk gov didn't need to buy it, it wasn't up for sale. They could, and should, have blocked the sale on national security grounds. The yanks would have done if it was one of their defence companies being sold abroad.

Less wastage more productive and if strategic company purchases are in the offering, snap them up
Like, nationalise them? Never had you down as a socialist

I've seen that when the like of train and hospitals are run with private business like efficiency, they can be wonderful. I'm not against running major utilities privately or by government. I don't want them run poorly with wastage

Sadly, this is typical of Brexit Britain, just a big asset sell of to the highest foreign bidder!
Is it just a UK issue?

Do you have any issues with what happened with Siemens/Osram which spurred off Osram into Ledvance to only be sold off to a Chinese consortium.

May explain why in a ten pack of Osram parathoms I purchased, eight have failed within 2 months!

Principally no, but most other countries governments will step in to protect the public interest. The UK is actually encouraging foreign investments which generally results in poorer quality products and services and ultimately siphons money out of the country.

In fairness, May blocked the Chinese nuclear power ‘deal’.

We’ll know for sure that this is the case and that it is indeed carte blanche if its given the green light again, then I’d say that it is more of a concern; Tory promises of infrastructure renewal/expansion will hinge on this.

King-Long buses; anyone up for a ride?

There's plenty of private enterprises run poorly and with waste! People seem to think that publicly run means bad, but it doesn't necessarily follow. A moments thought demonstrates why things are just as bad in the private sector. There are certain things that need to be in the public sector, no matter what

Chorion wasn't exactly a success story for privatising public services.
