Electric cars
But yeah, Osborne effect! Why on earth would I buy an EV (or another ICE) when I know Hydrogen is just around the corner!

Of the three Model 3 two were driven by young folk, so I would say they are not the preserve of old rich blokes.
Update to the wife's trip to Cornwall. It was ~800 miles in total She stopped overnight on the way down and up and charged twice, once at Bristol whilst having lunch, then in the morning. The car was parked up for a week in Cornwall while they stayed at the hotel( not charged whilst parked). She had a 10 min charge stop late at night on the return after popping over to the isles of Scilly. Another full charge 40 mins at Bristol which took her all the way home.
I haven't had the full costs per charge but it will be around £30-35 to charge the car. So two stops were to have lunch, no extra time incurred, 1 charge to full and a 10 min top up. 50 mins added to journey.
Equivalent ICE comparison equates to ~133 mpg
or if you drove a ICE at 35 mpg it would have cost £114 in fossils
Zero tailpipe emissions
All recharging done via Tesla superchargers, but as we pleasantly discovered there are loads of rapid chargers in Cornwall-50kWatt or faster available and if really desperate each property (Hotel) has a plug

God us northerners must be doing well, I saw 3 Model 3 20 plates around Leeds on my 30 min journey. Model S are not uncommon to see.

Not that I'm promoting ICE cars, we are in agreement that we need to change. Yes its possible to do long trips in a EV, but its simply not as convenient and required more planning for your journey to include charging stops!
Travelling long distances across Europe, I tend to take a packed lunch and just stop at one of the many scenic and quiet lay-by's where you can enjoy your lunch without the crowds and noise of a service station. There are generally no charging points in the lay-by's as they are often remote and have no electrical connection. It will also take decades (if ever) until you can charge an EV wherever you stop and you'll always have to stop for longer than the 5 minutes it takes to fill up your ICE car. Convenience will always be king, and the EV doesn't offer that. Hydrogen is the only current possible alternative that has true green potential (rather than the fake shift the problem from A to B offered by EVs) and still offers the fueling convenience of an ICE!
In Germany, Austria and Switzerland where I do most of my driving, it won't take so long to be viable. Germany is already just about there! Other countries, including the UK, need to wake up that the EV will never be an acceptable solution for all users, because its not convenient and its not really green, and properly drive the Hydrogen revolution as quickly as possible! Germany and Japan are leading the way! Just like with Corona, the UK will probably get caught sleeping and miss the boat!

Wife likes stopovers, so cant blame her. I used to do a lot of motorcycle touring, I would set a maximum of 350 miles per day. I have done 800 miles but its just stupid being on a bike from early morning to early evening. Enjoy life see places on the way

Also, in US, petrol stations are already getting ready to produce hydrogen on site.
Seems Germany has the most Shell stations compared with other countries in the world: https://www.shell.com/energy-and-inn...tions-july.pdf

Wouldn't fancy attempting that journey in an EV! It would take me a week just to get there and back!

Used to do stints to San-Sebastián (or Zarautz down the road) just over 900 miles in one day. Would take about 15 to 16 hours depending on stops and waiting at the tunnel.
The French taking an eternity to upgrade the N10 to a toll road put an end to that. It’s mostly done now but they are faffing about around Poitiers putting in railways now.

Frieburg to Preston is ~800 miles. Starting with a fully charged car its only two stops count out of three of 40-50 mins. Breaks the journey into three nice chunks. Tesla has superchargers either side of the chunnel. So planned stops could be done whilst waiting for boarding, saving time, so only two stop adds 50 mins. which is absolutely nothing in a 13-15 hour mega trip.
Much safer to have proper rest breaks and journey still completed in same day if desired.
I personally would drive to a nice chateau hotel, stop over and catch a morning train the next day, lunch somewhere in the countryside north of London, then pootle for final leg.

If the weather is nice I’m happy to stretch it out and have a few stopovers. But if it’s wet and cold, or it’s french strike season or a holiday week (black Saturdays
) screw it...blast it to the Med’ ASAP. Also had to do it when Brittany cancelled the overnight ferry (sometimes I’ve taken the ferry...depends on costs and timings etc. ).
Last time on the outbound leg I planned to stop in Burgos again...cancelled it as weather was atrocious. Just as well as I was 12hrs away from getting the full force of a bad Norovirus infection...hate to think what would have happened if I was still en-route 💩

It should have been forced upon them. Saying that the likes of Rivian and Tesla have shown design features allowing single platform design to suit a variety of models. This saves million s in production costs.

Its a non issue, the driver didn't know his own vehicle. You can vary the speed of wipers from either voice or by pressing the intermittent wipe function on the indicator stick followed by steering wheel volume scroll button.
I think Tesla went too clever by removing the normal wiper functions, but as Ive said more to do with slowing the EV revolution till its own manufacturers can manufacture something worthy.

Johnny Cash's Rolls Royce becomes an EV with Tesla drive hardware. Decent range for a behemoth

I presume its something German and Tesla. That would be German courts trying to slow the steamroller that is EV takeover.

Next month Tesla will be having a 'Battery day' announcement.
Rumours are a 1,000,000 mile battery life
or more importantly
Solid state battery technology
Lets see what this announcement brings

I'm with the German courts on this. Any car manufacturer who designs a car so that the wiper controls have to be operated by a touch-screen deserves to have their fingers slammed in a drawer.

TBH any car that has a critical control that isn’t adjusted via a tactile method (i.e adjusted or switched by feel alone) is a hazard.
Touch screens are the bain of modern cars... Fords Jags and Range Rovers were the worst for menu layouts....But VW dropped a rear clanger on the 2019 Touran with Halogen lights...the level adjuster is hidden deep in the radio menus. Meaning adjust headlamp level when loaded 7-up is impossible whilst driving. Earlier models just had a rotary dial next to the light switch.
Until voice control is properly implemented this touch screen fad needs to stop.
You do remind me of Audi Lover who used to come on here. I really would not be suprised if you make your misses dress up like Elon and make her wear an Elon mask when you bang her.

I dont know, maybe coz you can wash your hair after cooling your battery. Its used in many consumer products as well as many plastics too based from petroleum engineering.
I'll ask next time I have a meeting with Elon
