I go SIM only and buy my own phone, it gives you good flexibility that way.

I know the Face ID is extremely advanced and credit's due where credit's due, it can take into account subtle changes eg, stubble, makeup, hats etc but I can still see Muslims may Apple is being Islamophobic since it discriminates hijab wearing Muslim women. Maybe there will be an app to compensate.

Joking aside, I have to admit, the iPhone X is a pretty damn good phone going by the videos I've watch, but that price!!! I'm trying to justify it in my head that it is not just a phone; its a diary, a camera, an alarm clock, a camcorder, a wallet, used for emailing, banking, web surfing, social media, catch up TV, used as a music player, watching movies, as a newspaper, a book, a sat nav, a health tracker, a scanner, a remote control etc etc etc....but £999!!......

It's pretty much replaced my laptop. No one questions spending £1000+ on a TV that pretty much has one function despite there being plenty of cheaper TVs, why am I finding it hard to just the same for a phone.....

Ok, so it looks like the new iPhones won't be fast charging out of the box. Apple want you to buy fast charging adapter AND the USB-C to Lightening cable separately at £49 and £25 respectively!! WTF!! It's not enough you spend a grand+ for the phone you have to pay for this privilege! Why couldn't they just include the fast charger instead of the standard charger?

At least with Face ID you can't use a photo, printer and a contact lens to bypass it.

Yes, because so many people who steal phones go round with an infrared camera, manage to get a clear picture of their victim before they steal it, then go and use a high quality printer and contact lenses to break in to it......

Or, maybe they are opportunists who haven't a clue who they are stealing from and won't be able to get in.

So yes, it can be bypassed, but in reality, 99.9999999999% of people who use it are absolutely safe.

At least my wife can't get in to my phone whilst I am asleep, my eyes are shut, but FaceID.........

Luckily for you Face ID doesn't work with your eyes shut.

Of course. But don't worry, now that Apple has adopted Qi it'll become widespread.

I assume that this face ID is better and quicker at recognising you than the tech they use at passport control in the UK and EU, which takes a eternity...hence the massive queues.

And probably more secure. The tech in airport gates could be ten years old before it gets implemented.

Jack. I've no doubt that the new iPhone is a splendid phone, just like all the latest from each manufacturer. The problem is that the days of doe eyed fans is long gone and everyone pretty much is savvy price conscious. Apple are taking the **** with their pricing. Even my kids who are die hard apple fans have not asked for a new phone for 2 generations, so that must tell you something about the kids opinion.

Apple will need to price drop to encourage mass sales.

It probably is; When they computerised the MOT system, by the time they rolled it out it was almost fifthteen years old, including the equipment which was all 1990's old stock that had languished in a warehouse....

From the Epson dot matrix printer (same model as we had at secondary school that ran on a Acorn A3000) to the 56k dial-up modem!

Umm, OK, never heard that before. Maybe like me your kids realise that updating every year isn't the best plan especially as Apple products are so long lasting. Sensible.

Tell you what, come back in 6 months and tell me about the sales disaster. Then show me your phone that cost similar money.

75% Apple fanboy here. I like the majority of Apple products and have massively bought into their ecosystem as it ticks a multitude of boxes however the Latest iPhones. WTF!

IPhone does not justify the price tag, and the iPhone X, until it can whisk me off without my wife finding out I'll not be getting one.

The X is definitely a stretch and even if you do splash out you might not see it for a good while, demand will be high.

The 8 is a bit of a mistake I think, who wants second best? Anyhow the pricing of the 8 is just a Brexit increase so there is that.

Apple have a lot of wealthy customers/fans so they know they can charge crazy prices so I don't doubt sales figures will still be high. They aren't fussed about those who shop in CEX for bargains not being able to afford their devices.

For me though Apple's strength lies with it's ipad range, there is no other tablet that compares. If you want the best tablet there is no argument, that can't be said for their phones though as the competition is far stronger.

Their phones no longer interest me since I had the iphone 4 on release (still the most premium feeling phone i've owned) as to me their just isn't anything special about them in a market flooded with high end phones and especially now mid range phones are better now than the high end phones of a couple of years ago. My P2 is unbelievable for the money I paid for it. I just cannot justify paying flagship prices when you can do the same functions on something much cheaper just without the bells and whistles like face id which holds no interest for me - a finger print scanner does me fine. They need to do better than face id to get back their competitive edge they had in the early days of the iphone.

It's easy to think that Face ID is the big feature with the new iPhone but it's not. The neural engine is far more important but non technical people can't grasp it.

Lol the neural engine may well be technologically important to industry with how it can be developed but just doing face id in a phone doesn't mean everyone will want to flood out and buy one. A phone with a decent fingerprint scanner is just as secure and there are plenty of them to choose from at a fraction of the price.

A phone with a fingerprint scanner is not just as secure, no where near it.

You're making the mistake of getting hooked up on Face ID. Did you not see the other benefits of the technology? Lighting effects based on surface mapping? And lets not forget Augmented Reality.

I'm not making any mistake, none of what you are trying to sell the phone as being great for is of any interest to me and 99% of other phone users. AR is on pokemon go and it works fine on whatever device runs the game so you don't need an apple phone for AR to work.

A finger print is as unique as someone's face and no one else can get into my phone without my fingerprint or knowing the security code. The security code is the weak point in terms of guessing someone's code or cracking the software and that is still present with face id as inadvertently demonstrated at launch.

Edit: in fact i'd question the uniqueness of face id when it comes to identical twins. Has such a test been done? Identical twins can share a face but their finger prints will be unique.
