Never happen
Eu wont be around in 40 years more like 10-15 yrs
Entry would be no veto powers.
No UK pound, increased payments, loss of fiduciary
loss of legal national powers
Totally unattractive proposition
As the years roll on, UK will be much much happier being free.

Back in the real world, the EU is going nowhere, Northern Ireland is still in the customs Union with an effective border in the Irish sea, the Scots have been totally shafted and want out, the only Union that's going to collapse is the UK.
Add to that, all the old farts are dying out with Covid and the kids want back in, rejoining is only a matter of time

An organisation that crucifies southern members into crippling debt, with no possible way other than leaving the fiscal union. The next best way would be to default. The debt mountain that the EU has accumulated is unsustainable. Once proud nations will be reduced to ghetto cities as the young use free movement, flood France amd Germany. The Polish, Hungary wont be pushed around by Belgium. The EU will pull down the PIGS first followed by satellite states, leaving just Germany and France. The two countries who created the ponzi scheme.
Scotland is supported by the English as is NI. If the EU try and foook the UK, we can drop kick the deal within a year.. The benefit of time, is the young will realise, with age what a fantastic move the UK made in 2020.

The poorer Eu states are becoming better off compared to the richer states , than nearly all other trading blocks - ie the USA and certianly many many solo countries around the world !
Whether the ex communist states would be better off if they hadnt been part of the EU is diffcult to assess

Here's another reality check for you. This is from a friend of mine who moved to Sweden many years ago, and runs a business importing Land Rover Defender parts, selling them throughout Scandinavia:
"Just spoke with Swedish customs, the only goods from the UK that will be free of tariffs are those sourced in the UK. So any goods imported from elsewhere in the world to the UK and then shipped onwards will be subject first to UK tariffs then we will pay a 5% tariff here in the EU to import those parts. On top of that, we previously reported monthly amounts of EU vat but paid nothing. Now we have to pay a freight forwarder to declare every item and their 10 digit codes and there are many codes.
This works both ways so prices will just go up everywhere, and it will delay supplies.
The system has worked so well as EU members for years. This is yet more headache and time wasted."

I dont know, never professed this deal would do what you require.
Personally, II would like significant reduction in immigration. Teach/train british people for the future.
Like, Ive mentioned, British governments are now directly on the hook. They cant hide behind a supranational organisation.

I require nothing from brexit. I'm retired, it doesn't affect me much personally. But, as unfashionable as it may be, I do care about the prospects of brexit voters in these 'left behind' communities that were promised a whole load of sunny uplands. It was these people that carried the leave vote over the line. They deserve more than a dismissive shrug, don't you think?
