Barring any sort of military action against Russian forces in Syria such as a no fly zone over Aleppo and shooting down Russian and Syrian planes that ignore it there isn't really any other route other than sanctions and embargoes against Russia. Putin either says fair enough those are tough measures which I can't afford or he says says **** you all do what you like i'm not changing and he makes the Russian people pay for it. They won't tolerate it for long and he either backs down or gets removed from power.

 

There isn't one, as I pointed out four years ago.

So if there is no solution or action to be taken against a permanent member of the UN and a signatory to the Geneva Convention who has committed war crimes then the Geneva Convention is unenforceable/meaningless and a waste of time and the UN should be dissolved as it is in fact powerless?

It shows the sad state of affairs the World is in when people can just ignore and laugh off war crimes committed by a superpower such as Russia in bombing hospitals and say oh well never mind there is nothing anyone can do Russia is in fact demonstrating very well that there is no actual accountability for illegal acts committed by a state as no one seems to care!

 

Understanding this is to understand the absurdity of the human condition and to try and resolve it Sisyphean.

 

There we go. Now we've gotten over that point can we get away from all this talk of war crimes.

Well we've already concluded that unless it's a little country that the rest of the world can bully, then they are basically unenforceable. So at least acknowledge that "war crimes" may as well be synonymous with "stuff we don't morally agree with".

 

Sorry I can't agree with that. I wouldn't describe taking action to stop war crimes as bullying - the leader perhaps but not the poor sods being killed, tortured and starved. Plus I think the West i.e. USA + Europe with UN backing could take on any country in the world except China who are physically big enough to take anything that is thrown at them. And I think Putin is on shaky ground on this.
