Hi guys,

Im looking at getting a Apple Mac Air, Basically all i will be using it for is internet, films emails etc nothing special.

I think i would prefer the 11" as ill be taking it on flights and not sure if the 13" will be a bit big..

What i want to know please is the 11" has 4gb ram and the 13" has 8gb ram.

Is it worth putting up with the bigger screen to have the extra 4gb ram will it make much difference?

Also just noticed in the 13" they do a 128gb and 256gb is it worth paying £150 more for?

Dont want something that is going to go slow after 12 months but again dont want to pay over the odds for a machine that ill never use to its capacity.

You'll be fine on flights and it is best to start with more ram, it'll last longer.

The Macbook is 12" and a bit more cash but it's a better buy right now.

You're going to struggle with 128gb eventually. Make sure you check the refurb section, might get lucky.

sorry for the amount of questions jack but is it easy enough to upgrade the gb at a later date?

agree with jack, 8GB and 256 is the sweet sport for minimal Apple laptops,

Rumour has it Jack weren't Apple phasing out the Air ? Id probably look at a MAC Book or Pro if i was buying right now... But hang in there as there about to announce a new lineup i think ...

The Macbook is such a cracking little machine I can't see the Air lasting long.

I'm thinking Apple are hanging out for something huge, like OSX running on their mobile chip, it's already faster than the Air.

There is the other side of the argument. Instead of waiting for the air replacement or plumbing for the macbook with its USB-C, you could go for a macbook air that once fully specced up with last you for quite a few years.

As an example my 2011 macbook air has 128GB with 8GB DDR3 memory (this is memory that cant be removed) . As the air's use SSD and RAM that is non removable you need to spec what you need at time of purchase.

You can also add extra storage using the SD card like I do. I use a 128GB Jetdrive SD card for the extra storage. It has now been running like a dream and now 5-6 years down the line it still performs as fast as the day I purchased it.

Anyway food for thought

Very true. I'm still rocking my 2010 Macbook Pro, 8GB with upgraded 500GB SSD, it was top of the line and very expensive but remains so good I just can't replace it. Right now I'm on my early 08 iMac, my daily driver, only 4GB and due an SSD that should keep it going at least another year. I don't think it gets Sierra so will have to get an exit plan underway.

Went for a MacBook pro in the end. Really pleased with it so far so thanks for the help guys.

Also picked up a iphone 7 as a upgrade on my contract so should be set for a bit now.
