You tried to refute my argument but lacked any factual information to back up your statements!

Oh yeah, that's right, because the UK vetoed higher steel tariffs for Chinese imports! FACT!
Just because we're too stupid and would rather let our industry collapse rather than breaking a few little rules that nobody really has the will to punish us for. We could have done exactly the same as the Germans or Italians, but we didn't and in your mind that is somehow the EU's fault and not our own stupidity!
Or even better, would could have not vetoed the higher tariffs and we could have all carried on without having to break any rules!

Nonsense. You have proof they vetoed our doing anything BECAUSE we vetoed higher traiffs? Or is that more remain supposition posted as fact?
The FACTS are simple. The EU blocked our bid to help OUR steel industry and the same way as the Germans and Italians already did.
It's not MY fault UK governments have consistently obeyed all the b/s rules the EU can throw at us, thus fukcing up a great number of UK workers and p*ssing off even more. Hence the out vote.
If the EU didn't POST daft rules, then allow SOME countries to flout them, we'd be fine...hence Brexit.
Are you finally getting it? It would seem so

Yes...haven't you been reading this? Tehre is NO SUCH THING as cheap Chinese steel. There is expensive European steel.
THAT is why the Germans and Italians acted as they did.
And why we should have done so to, but were blocked from so doing...by the EU.
Did they need to do it? Well, they did it, that tells you a lot.

Incidentally I never said there was such a thing as "cheep chinese steel", so I don't see why your getting your blood pressure up over that.

Facile...there is actually no such thing as cheap Chinese steel. What there IS is expensive European steel. THAT is why Germany and Italy took unilateral action, NOT with stupid tariffs, but by relaxing energy, emission and green tax rules. Also business taxes. WE were not allowed to do the first three and refused to do the fourth.
As for war, I hope not and doubt it, but the way nationalism is rising and the kind of splintering you seem to to wish to inflict on Europe is not too far removed from how it was in the early years of he 20th Century. We all know how that turned out.

Once again you used cheap Chinese steel. PLEASE try to understand, it's not cheap, it's cheaper than our dear stuff...which EU rules, laws etc force to be dear. Unless you are Germany or Italy, then you ignore those laws and rules. I'd laugh if it's wasn't so gfekking tragic for us.
As for golden goose, you have completley misunderstood me. The UK is/was/is never going to be anyone's golden goose.
What IS a golden goose for France, Spain and to a lesser extent, Greece, Italy etc, is the massive number of expats with holiday homes out there, or living there, retired. They prop up a local economy which would otherwise be in free-fall. Those countries aren't going to do any damage to that particular golden goose any time soon.
My comment was in response to repeated bating of me about my house out here in very rural France.

I'm not, but it's a well used and totally wrong phrase in all this.
Tariffs are NOT the answer (when we desperately need Chinese money to build powerstations), they simply lead to tit-for-tat situations and bad feelings all round.
Hence Germany and Italy's solution. Which works.

Yeah, the Spanish really love all the foreigners coming over and buying all the houses, forcing the prices up so the locals can't afford to buy any more! Then they do all their shopping in the local English shop and go out drinking in the English pubs supporting pretty much nothing except the ex-pat community over there!
