Our 535d GT which has the same N57 engine (not to be confused with the older M57) as the 435d fitted in a heavier car does and average of 40mpg on long trips, sometimes 39, sometimes 41 - depending on which way the wind blows .

In town and driving hard it drops quite considerably. Generally low to mid 30s.

Also if the diverter valve between the two turbos fails, that'll cost you 10mpg, and it won't throw up any warning lights either. As I quickly found out during a 2800mile round trip

I went for a proper hoon yesterday for about half an hour. 17mpg and a big grin
