I was gonna replace it for another piper or K&N because they are the makes I grew up with, but I saw that a few tuners are selling Perrin which I've never heard of.
Are Perrin better than K&N and Piper?
Hi there

Perrin is in principle same as Piper, its foam based filter,I would personally go with K&N or AEM or Green cotton induction kit if you wan to run or need to run induction kit

Thanks,Jura

I'm in the market for an induction kit. I've narrowed my search down to the RCM or the K&N typhoon. I'm prepared to pay the extra £60 or so for the typhoon based on the fact it comes complete with a nice heat shield with foam seal that should help prevent the dreaded heat soak. Ready to pull the trigger on this now but I see a lot of folk are running the RCM instead. Is this a cost, brand name or performance thing. Does it not suffer from tremendous best soak without a proper heat shield. Any help would be great.

Cheers,
Melly

Hi Melly

K&N Typhoon is kit which I wouldn't use on my car, this kit doesn't have best reputation on Subaru

I would recommend RCM Induction kit,we run RCM Induction kit without the heatshield or without the cold air and we are never have any issues with heatsoak

Here is it how it sits in the engine bay, although we are run mafless and custom hard inlet pipe

I figured the air would be cooler away from the turbo. ESL and mafless

I will be going mafless and ESL so looks a good place to mount my RCM cone filter.
Lovely looking engine bay, makes me think of ditching the tmic for a front mount!

Im hoping someone will advise me if the long run of tube from filter to inlet is hindering performance. Not many options with a 90 deg turbo. for the early cars.

It was for me,but both kits will function well...the RCM kit is a bit different though as their trumpet has more R&D involved specifically for Subarus.SJ.

Thread revival ...... My engine bay has evolved a bit, now front entry and lateral fmic. I had a piper x foam filter for a year but the foam started degrading. I bought this cone filter from the classifieds on here connected it to a RCM grp N inlet hose. The trumpet was a different size so I bought a reducing elbow from ASH. You can buy k&n cones With various trumpet sizes. I think viper performance are selling Alloy joiners that will take a maf.
