Advice on large k&n air filter
Looking at the large k&n cone air filter's and just wanted to know if anyone is running them and what's ur opinion?
Roughly 12" long so pretty big!! I've got plenty of room to play with so size isn't a problem!! (Ooh eer mrs) ;-) Also where did u buy from? Not 100% settled on k&n so would like to hear about similar filters if uve got them. Tim. |
I'm running a RCM trumpet and K&N filter in my spec c :)

How do u find it? Is it one of the large filters 12"? Do u know the part no out of interest?

im running a hks intake, hks filter, hks hard pipes. great noise off it under boost. looks the part under the bonnet

Personally I would go with GGR or RCM induction kit,those two are proven on numerous cars we are run RCM at 490bhp and at 555.5bhp without the problems And about the Foam filters,those are bit dangerous,please search over here about the Viper induction kit who run guy Hope this help Thanks,Jura |

Please have look on this thread https://www.scoobynet.com/general-te...t-i-found.html And here is very similar thread where guy run HKS or similar foam based filter and his turbo has been badly damaged or blades has been badly damaged Those filters have poorer filtration than normal filters,somewhere I've posted test results on those filters and there are pictures of how they can filter dirt and those foam based filters have poor filtration But that's my view,everybody can have different view Thanks,Jura |
Shreksta the perrin short ram - or short ram big maf is a good pipe but the filter is a bit pitta , I would change it out if that's what you have

Nothing , as to say it will fail lije those awfull other jobbies :)
I had one on mine ages ago , it didn't oerform as I was hoping .. Search , there are a few stories on the USA forums telling of similar woe. Hey , Wrong of me to diss it , as it's better than a lot out there & maybe fine ( sure it will be ) for your needs ... I personally like the ( microphone boom ) look :) |

The majority go with rcm k&n cone, biggest that will fit as the bigger will allow more air, proven with big bhp cars,
I wouldn't use a hks ever again, poor filteration and actually made my car slower in mid range. This is what you want Attachment 70562 Note, only fit if you have fmic as the stock air box work well without induction with uprated filter |

I have a Perrin on mine and I love it. Shreksta they sound great and quality is good. It was reccomended to me by Scoobyclinic before a map

I have the same cone filter as you busta,not fitted yet as I'm waiting for my ESL in a couple of weeks. I will be staying with the tmic and have an uprated panel filter with standard airbox atm. I love the sound of the cone filters and thought it might give better air flow and performance once mapped? Are induction kits only beneficial with fmic?

The only reason fitting it with fmic is there's no room with from pipe work for stock air box to be fitted hence cone filter. The stock air box is good upto 400 I'd say. If you're having esl and leaving TMIC on, I'd recommend going mafless. |
Same here,accumulated parts,filter,3 port boost solenoid,wideband ect.. ESL is the final piece of the jigsaw in a couple of weeks and will be going mafless,just need to do loads more reading and loads of logging before I start tweaking the map :)

http://mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/index.html But on few other forums and sites "testers" claiming K&N are most restrictive,which I would say is down to the car I would suspect Here are those tests http://www.fastcar.co.uk/2012/05/04/...filter-test/9/ http://www.evolutionm.net/forums/evo...t-results.html But I wouldn't use foam based filter on the my car,those K&N from RCM or GGR etc has been proven on numerous cars and are still most recommended on the cars AEM Dryflow are OKish,if you are not looking go beyond 400bhp as they're mostly used on Honda NA cars and not on Forced induction cars,but this is my view on them And about the Perrin not sure,their BigMAF tube is great,but filter I'm not 100% sure Hope this help Thanks,Jura |

The largest 9" dryflow can take a lot of power and has been used on many BIG power builds both here in Sweden and in the US.

Thanks for the response, ive been on the phone with mark at lateral performance today and after a chat i have taken the plunge with one of their turbo inlet pipes, trumpet, and k&n filter. So hopefully should have a good setup for the inlet/air flow side of things! Thanks again guys for the input! Much appreciated! Tim. |

I'm not 100% sure,but looks like Perrin have ID 3.125" and RCM have I think bigger ID,I would speak with RCM about this for sure If you will receive Perrin BigMAF tube please measure and then you will see Thanks,Jura

Lateral turbo inlet is good and has been used on many cars and Mark@Lateral Performance doesn't sell something which doesn't work or in which he doesn't believe will work Yes hopefully you will have great setup Thanks,Jura |
Sorry to hijack the thread but I need a new filter too.
I've got a Piper cone on atm but it's missing chunks of foam for some reason. I was gonna replace it for another piper or K&N because they are the makes I grew up with, but I saw that a few tuners are selling Perrin which I've never heard of. Are Perrin better than K&N and Piper? |
