It's down to personal preference . RS is the most focused model 100kg lighter with mech rear diff and short gear box . But saying GSR is boring is funny
, I find GSR is pretty focused car already and RS might be over the top for my personal needs.
I think Normal STI shouldn't be compared to GSR , GSR being more focused out of the box , quick rack , oil cooler wider and lower chassis , better power band as they're twin scroll. Spec C is a fair comparison , if earlier models than RA maybe but having myself 2 classics in the past they're not really a par to E5/6 handling wise.

It was only when I had a drive in a Evo 7 RS one day I realised I owned the wrong models, and it was the RS models I should be looking at, so went out and bought myself a Evo 6 RS, and all i can say is what a car, this is the car for years I thought a Evo would be like, it was like night & day in comparison(like STi vs WRX

As for the handling on the GSR, yes its leaps and bounds better then most UK STi Impreza's I wont deny that this is the Evo's best part, but on the roads there is no way you would use its full potential, and as for comparing a Evo 6 GSR to blob/hawk Spec C is a fair comparison is so far from the truth, and like most Evo owners dont compare a Evo to the UK sh1te Impreza's we get over here because most of the stuff you described a GSR being more focused out of the box, comes pretty much standard on a JDM STi twin scroll Impreza(without the squeaky brakes

That red Evo is smart, but if I was in the market for one I think this would be well worth the extra 3k..

Like you say down to personal preference, I couldn't get on with my Evo 6 GSR or my Evo 7 GSR, I found the power delivery quite smooth compared to the Impreza and the car had no real character, I really hyped the whole Evo thing up coming from a Impreza, I was left a little disappointed after owning them
.

) been in 100's of Evo's GSR's & RS's and I stick to my judgement that the RS is a far superior car!!!![Luvlove](images/smilies/luvlove.gif)

Agree , and i'm not comparing older to newer , like for like. 3 of my scoobs were JDM , 2 classics and a new age. All were used on track and thats were it counts for me . I drove quite few imprezas by now and still find my e6 sharper but it might not be necessary a better car for all of us. In my experience most cars are fun , if driven accordingly . This was my Wet Cadwel park ... Scroll down to 5 mins were theres no traffic and i'm chasing a souped up e7 in my 6. Most of cars can be fun , depending your driving style ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)

Your right there, I got a modified Golf 20v turbo as my daily hack that I love(more fun then the Evo's and Impreza's ive owned
), torquesteers all over the road on boost and goes through front tyres every few months but its so much fun I wish I could keep it forever, but the missus keep moaning that its got to go as I will have to many cars![Cry2](images/smilies/cry2.gif)

I own both Evo 5 (forged, 520bhp) and a Classic WRX STI (~300bhp)
The Evo is an insane car, but its fuel economy is so poor (7mpg under boost) that I decided to get a Scooby as a daily driver - can get 250-300 miles on a tank, compared to 100 in the Evo!
the cars are totally different.
For country lanes, I would pick the evo, it doesnt lift off when trying to corner quickly. It stays planted and solid. However its a b1tch to drive in traffic!
For town / quick road, the Scooby is far more drivable and you can live with it as a daily car.
Just my thoughts!
