The fact you don't eat meat is neither here nor there, it's the underlying issues of this, that affect us all. Hence the huge backlash and sheer disagreement and anger of people everywhere. It is wrong on so many levels.
If you can't see this, then yes ignorance is definatly bliss.

Lol dunno why all the hoo haa.. there is approx 1500 subway stores in uk and ireland.. how many are halal? 200? Do the math lol.. kfc ratios for halal stores are higher.. media is a wonderful thing aint it lol
I just been in Tesco s this morning and noticed thru have there own halal butchers section getting stupid now they be allowing stoning in the streets next
Tesco have had a Kosher section for the last 25 years.
Do they sell meat from unwanted puppies? Of course not. Do I think eating meat from any animal is better than eating puppies? No. An animal is an animal. What I do think is that people have the right to make their own decisions. I won't force my views on anyone else and expect the same in return. I have abolitionist vegan friends who would be more than happy to though. That's their business.
You're missing the point of the discussion, which is whether Subway franchisees can choose not to sell certain meats. That's up to them. The discussion isn't about whether Subway should sell any animal products is it?
Ignorance is not bliss, informing yourself and respecting the views of others, however, is.
You still don't get it ,I was not saying it was or was not o.k to eat meat of any kind. I was just offering a possible explanation as to why some one was saying your ignorant (I didn't say your ignorant) . But while I have your attention, you say I was missing the point, which is whether subway can choose to sell certain meats, its up to them you said. I don't agree, if we were to leave it up to them(them being the people of the u.k) all hell would break loose. I believe that we do need the food industry to be regulated ie no animal cruelty (halal).
Is it just me or is anyone else getting really pissed off with things like this? If we go over to some of these countries can we build our own churches? I think not! We have to follow their rules, and granted not everyone does to a degree but i'm really starting to feel like a foreigner in my own country....I wish they would just F**K off sometimes, if you dont like it go back to where you crawled out from!!!
However, one method is a quick kill, the animal knows nothing of it. The other I'm not so sure about?
I understand the points they're trying to make, but a quick kill, a slow kill, still not 'humane'. If I shot a bolt through a puppies head because I wanted to eat it, is it humane? Animals cannot be humanely slaughtered, it's an oxymoron. If you choose to eat 'meat', you accept that. Some people are comfortable with that, some aren't.
So called ethics are being used as an argument against one religions treatment of animals, but the bigger picture is that the end result is the same.
but the bigger picture is that the end result is the same.
Yes the end result is the same but how the result is achieved is two totally different methods, which seems to be what we are talking about. One kills the animal outright, the other does not.

If it was really happening, I'd be extremely pissed off.
In this particular case though, since the story is completely untrue (Subway haven't banned anything, it's individual owners of some stores who've voluntarily gone Halal to make more $$), I'm feeling pretty apathetic about the whole thing.

Correct, the end result is the death of an animal for human consumption. My stance is clear. If they want to argue semantics over how they do it, it's up to them, but neither is humane or ethical

Serious question - how long does an animal actually remain conscious once its throat is cut, per Kosher or Halal butchery?

Reason: Misuse of apostrophe :|
I remember once at a Newcastle football match, there was 3000 Muslims in the crowd, they thought they were going to see Allah Shearer playing up front.
Just waiting for someone to not see the funny side of this and be offended.
Don't know TBH, but the fact remains that the animal is actually alive/conscious when it's throat is being cut.
The vast majority of halal slaughter is done post stunning. I've already stated this earlier but it seems to have been overlooked. I'll also reiterate DJ Dunk's point that worrying about animal slaughter methods and being a meat eater are oxymoronic.
Fair play then, I never knew they were stunned. out of curiosity why does it need to be done that way, what difference does it make over the other way?

Tescos offer both stunned and non stunned Chickens. Bless.

Someone posted the following YouTube link partway down the Subway facebook page replies. It may be upsetting to some (even though it is not age restricted), so i have not directly linked to it - you will need to copy and paste the URL manually.
I was quite surprised that the cow seemed to still be actively reacting over five minutes after the initial cut.

That was graphic but when it thrives about, surely it's dead past that point and it's just the nerves spasming about?
