Default Snow tyres vs snow socks

As post says, anybody used snow socks ?

Interested in whether snow socks would be needed both front and rear ?

Last winter i saw a beemer do something incredible on just one snow sock ..... no idea how but it did it!

Anyway, i should imagine a scooby on 4 would be pretty unflappable.

Snow socks aren't a replacement for snow (winter) tyres though.

Their sole purpose is to keep you going if the conditions are really bad, that means there needs to be total snow cover on the road and you can only drive with them at reduced speeds (you should be anyway). Drive with them on a road with no snow or slush and they'll soon wear out / shred. A set in the boot for emergencies may be worthwhile but I can imagine putting them on / taking them off is a PITA.

Bro in law used them last year on his mk6 golf and raved about them and at £40 vs £400-500 seems like a good way to go. He did drive on clear roads for 2-3 miles after the snow cleared and the had no marks or tears! And he drives like a maniac!

That is why I posted OG thread as he got to my house in shi7 deep snow last year!

So, would you by two sets (ie all four wheels) and go for ulimate grippage? or just a pair and put 'em on the back with DCCD set to rear for fun?

Really I would strongly advise go with winter tyres if you are intending to use car on daily basis in winter

Winter tyres using different silica(higher content of Silica) and winter tyres works best/better under 10C(above 15C you will ruin them)

got mine on nexan winguard 215/40/17 £61 a corner, and they are way way better than hancooks in the wet cold, for example i can no longer drift the slippery greasy roundabouts where i live, and the other night saved me on a country road from a prang, road covered in cow**** leaves and rain, i stopped and moved over and the audi a4 coming the other way just glided past me locked up so i know they work
