Default Which caliper paint

Hi,

Can I have some opinions on what is the best caliper paint that will withstand some punishment on a track day.

Got some Brembo calipers that need a refurb.

I have read some conflicting reviews on Foliatec being good, Hammerite...or even halfords.

I can of course just go the VHT spary route but thought I would ask you guys.

Thanks

Jim

Cheapest is Hammerite and it does the best job.

Cheers,

How good does it cope on track though. It doesn't seem to have a very high temp rating.

You will NEVER get calipers to be that hot buddy. No matter how hard you'll be braking you won't make them hot enough to start paint flaking.
Just do a few hard brakings and touch the caliper. It will be just worm when discs will be too hot to touch by bare hand/finger.

I bought an e-tech kit off evilbay .... highly rated!

3 coats of it and they came up like factory coating.

Great...Hammerite does it in two, and costs less.

Plus, no prep, other than wire brushing clean

Thanks everyone,

I will try the Hammerite then and save myself a few quid.

I take it there is no clear coat needed at the end.

Correct, and you can brush paint it if you follow the instructions.

When I do them, it's wheel off, clean, paint first coat, leave, return in an hour, paint second coat and replace wheel, on to next, etc.

My calipers are in need of redoing as theirs a few places where the old paint has flaked off - can I just clean any dirt off them and use Hammerite over the old paint in the way suggested above?

I used to use hammerite and it does do a pretty good job!

However i find it too thin and tricky to build up a decent flat surface, particularly on an old (still on the car) fairly grotty caliper .... any texture/corrosion/grottyness shines through the hammerite whereas the specific caliper paints tend to hide the ****e a bit better as they seem to go on thicker yet have a better self levelling effect.... does this make sense?
