i have to agree with you, mine came with a ninja backbox and got a standard twin exhaust fitted a few days later away. i like the sound much better than a big bore exhaust plus i wont wake my neighbours at 4am when i set off for work!

Did you say the big bore it came with is stainless steel?
If so fine grade wet and dry paper and autosol/autoglym metal polish should do the trick, I restored a Jap system that came with my classic and it came up a treat.. used a Dremel for worst parts, wet and dry and Autoglym metal polish..
If its mild steel its a different story.. got any pics?

I didn't think it was stainless but the bloke at the garage said it was, it's really rusty but it sounds mint. I've got a buffer wheel at work do you think try that?

I'd give it a go with some fine grade wet and dry first and see how it comes up, then on any parts that are stubborn crack out the dremel or buffer wheel after.. but don't set upon it too harshly..
the metal polish makes all the difference though, the mild steel ones are useless once they start to corrode, esp the Subaru ones they seem to de-laminate and are good for nothing but the bin. my turbo 2000 standard backbox seemed to peel itself apart..
it probably is ss if he says it is, as most aftermarket ones are anyway..

definitely stainless then.. should all come off with a bit of wet and dry/metal polish. nice and cheap to do too, bit messy like but worth it.
Maybe the odd bit of grinding on the very corroded parts! welds and flanges etc.. but there safely tucked out of sight anyway..
