Brakes - The next step...
Hi all,
Looking for advice regarding my brake set up. Car currently running 342/410. HEL braided brake lines with dot 4. Mintext fast road m1144. Tegiwa brake stopper. Standard discs all round.
Whats the next step in upgrading as they are struggling and make an awful hum when coming off the dual carriageway?
Thanks

1144 is a mild fast road pad at best, do you have uprated rear pads??
first step would be decent pads all round, after that then upgraded calipers, etc. budget dependant............

I agree the Mintex M1144 are not the pad I would fit in an Impreza , the 1155's are a better pad.
changing the discs and pads should transform the braking performance , we could offer you various options that would do the job , first step up would be fitting front and rear grooved discs and kevlar sport pads , I find these pads slightly better than the 1144's , but fitting them front and rear and not just fronts should balance the braking out , we could offer you front and rear grooved discs and kevlar pads for £215.
Up from there , and a good increase in performance from the kevlar pads would be either the bluestuff , and up from there the orangestuff pads , the package price jumps up as the price of the pads are quite a bit more , the complete front and rear kit with grooved discs is £375.
The Ferodo DS2500's are also a good pad , I don't think they are as good as the blue's or orange , but they are an expensive pad.
We can also supply you one of our 335mm brake kits which fit with your standard 4 pot calipers and will fit under your wheels , this kit comes with larger and thicker 2 piece discs and bells , larger than standard pads , a choice of pad compounds are available , it also comes with caliper mounting brackets and fitting kit , and we offer this kit for £550.
Up from there is one of our 330mm disc kits with AP 4 pot calipers , again it comes as a complete kit ic various pad compounds, its a complete bolt on kit that also fits under your standard 17" wheels , we sell this kit for £1100.
P&P on the above is £15.
Hope this helps
Cheers Ian

Probably should have mentioned i dont use the car on the track. Needed for heavy road use only. Would ebc orange or blue still be the way forward bearing this in mind?

First off, never, ever add a post on a different subject to an existing thread, especially when looking for advice.
People who have already responded to the thread, and others not interested in that thread, are imediately excluded.
OK, advice: Yes, you can get pistons, but what does he mean, "pistons have gone"? Pistons don't "go", they can seize, but go? NOPE!
I suggest you either remove a caliper, or get someone who knows what he is doing to do so, and have a look at the state of it.
Ian Godney, Godspeed, does a kit for you to renovate your calipers, or will do them on exchange.
