Wheel hub/bearing removal
My front left wheel bearing on my Mk IV 2003 Legacy 3.0R is humming at speed, feels a bit rough when wheel rotated, is better when I swerve left.
New one ordered, got an electric impact wrench, 32mm socket and hub puller set coming. Have ordered a replacement hub/bearing from Euro Car Parts.
Anything else I need? Have soaked all the bolts with WD40 type spray today. It looks like I need to take off the ABS sensor, tie rod, ball joint, suspension fixings.

think on those that they adopted the "bolt-in" hub units rather than have to strip the hub to mount in a press and push the old one out..............
not seen many Legacy's for any heavier work unfortunately so cant help out much

If i'm not mistaken it will be like this
Unbolt the brake caliper and support its weight. Remove the brake disc & undo the hub nut 32mm.
tip turn the steering left first and push the drive shaft back a touch to gain access to the 14mm headed bolts on the top and bottom, They wont be very tight to be fair. then turn the steering right and push the driveshaft back again and undo the top and bottom bolts again.
now the tricky bit getting the hub unit off the upright. I tend to use a drift and hammer and knock it on the top corner forcing the hub to twist so it breaks the rusty layer off it, then try knocking it outwards, Can be a fiddle but easy enough
Once out clean the upright in the hole of the rusty layer, swap the disc back plate over to the new hub and reassemble.
Make sure the euro hub has the abs ring on the rear of the bearing.

Everything went smoothly (32mm nut, ABS sensor and the 4 bolts at the back) until attempting to remove the hub from the upright. I got a set of three bearing pullers which arrived today, and the two biggest ones failed (the metal fractured) on the first attempt so will be going back.
Any suggestions on a tool that will remove the hub without breaking the bank? I probably won't use such a tool again for years...

When I did mine on my 06 STI I got it started by using a fine chisel around the flange of the bearing to loosen it. It came out pretty easily with a drift after that.
