Question

I've tried a few brake options on my WRX my01 which includes EBC Green stuff, Kevlar stuff, upgraded discs, and ultimately the brakes still fade a bit and do not seem to provide the braking power required.

I'd even go as far as to say that the brakes on my previous car [Vectra SRI my00] had better brakes.

I'm currently looking into Alcon/Prodrive or AP Racing 4 or 6 pots, if i was to go for any of the above options, how much of a difference will they make?

Also, it's highly possible that I may part-ex my WRX for an STi in 6-8 months, would it be worth swapping out the Brembo's that come with the STi for the above brake options?

I do not take the car out on track day, but I do however tend to cane the car along twisty A/B roads every day.

Hi
I have the Ferodo DS2500 pads fitted to the front of my '02 WRX with the OEM disc's and the brakes are fantastic
Been on a few track days and there is NO FADE at all.
They even work from cold, no need to get them up to temperature first. And they produce less dust than the OEM's.

If you don't do track days, there is NO need for a full brake upgrade. I can still get the ABS to kick in when the brakes are red hot after several flying laps on track.

My mates car is on the OEM pads and after seeing how good these pads are, he's having a set fitted.

Done a few runs of the circuit over the weekend using new Tar-ox pads, they 'seem' better, but that's not really saying much with only ~200 miles on the pads.

If I were to go either to the Brembo 330mm or the AP 6 pots, how much of a difference is there?

Perhaps your fade is due to the fluid boiling rather than the pads? Try DOT 5 fluid to see if that helps!

Seem to remember that DOT is just the rating for water absobancy and doesn't have anything to do with boiling point of brake fluid.

You are right about the water absorbancy, IIRC though it's the water content in your fluid that tends to boil, certainly at a lower temp than the fluid itself..

i have replaced the front pads on my MY01 with mintex 1155 and it seems better, but still really inadequate. changed to fluid to dot 5.1 on friday and it seems quite a lot better.
has anyone changed the front disks for other disks the same size? not prepared to go the brembo / ap route as wife has a season ticket for M&S

Wink

As you have done the break fluid you could now try some braided hoses less flex so better pressure give it a try
