Default Smokin'

Just fitted new discs, pads, lines and fluid all round on an 03 Sti... After a quick test drive they are smoking a bit... Enough to concern my mate driving behind me

Is this normal or a cause for concern??

Bedding in, by the sound of it. Follow the instructions and see if it stops once fully bedded in. Which discs / pads are you using?

godspeed's grooved discs, ebc blue pads and hel braided lines

whats the spec for bedding in? on my bikes i used to just do a couple of hard braking down to zero runs and they were done.. my mechanic gave me a funny look when i suggested that for the car..

what works?

Hi Jonny
Stapled to your invoice are bedding in instructions , with only few miles on them they should not be getting hot enough to cause them to smoke , if you are only driving at normal speeds something seems amiss ,

I recommend driving at normal speeds on A & B roads for 300 miles to heat cure the discs , then you can do some high speed hard stops , where conditions allow , get up to 80+ and brake down hard to 20 , don't stop , carry on driving to cool them , and do this 5 or 6 times and they should be ready to use then

Cheers Ian

you have cleaned everything down with brake cleaner?? new discs normally have a transport coating to keep them in good condition and this can sm,oke if not cleaned off, as well as contaminating pads, etc.!!
