Question

I'm currently doing a lot of track days in my P1 on the 17 P-zeros (205,45,17 - a very difficult wheel size because the choices are very limited for some reason) and want to keep them more for getting to and from the tracks, or use them on track if its wet.

I'd like to get some slicks complete with wheels, either 17" or 18" that I can take along and use if the conditions are right, but I know nothing about slicks. My main questions are - where can I get some? If I do get some and need to get more later on what is the best size wheel to get to ensure a most reliable supply? How much could I expect to pay (ballpark) so I don't get ripped off?

Any help would be appreciated (rides at circuit days anybody??)

JB, first off, most people fit 215/40x17 tyres as there is far more choice. Rolling radius is identical to 205/45x17.

Slicks are hard to get hold of, unless you're buying new at £150 a corner. Part-worn 16in slicks are quite easy to find, but 17in are very rare in Scoob-friendly sizes. Can you use 16in wheels or are your brakes too big?

If I could afford it, my preference would be for some track-day tyres that a few manufacturers produce. These are pretty much like hand-cut slicks, but are road legal and you can also use them in the wet (carefully!). But still cost £110-150 each. I'll dig out some more info if you're interested.

Good luck,

Richard.

Thanks Richard. Forgive my ignorance - but do you mean that I can fit 215/40/17's tyres to my current wheels?

Those road legal semi slicks you mentioned sound interesting, any info you've got would be good.

I doubt I can fit 16" wheels over my brakes (330mm AP 6 pots).

Cheers

Johnny

JB, yes, 215/40x17 is perfect on a 17x7in wheel. I have P1 wheels on my car with those tyres, and APR 6-pots.

Wasn't sure about your brakes, and 16in wheels will fit over standard P1 brakes (which are identical to MY00 brakes). I'll look out some of that tyre info when I get home.

Cheers,

Richard.

I just so happen to have just 1 set of full slicks I could let you have !

The only size suitable is 210 x 620 x 17"

They are a Dunlop medium compound.

£140 collected or £170 delivered UK mainland

Or....£450 on a set of 17" anthracite speedline GT1's

There are approx 3 - 4 track days left in them AS LONG as you rotate them at least once during your trackday !

I'm currently doing 3 - 4 trackdays each month

I have searched the UK for slicks suitable for the car....2nd hand there ain't none...I promise you....new...cheapest I have found is £150 plus VAT and even these are from a seceret supplier...there are none advertised openly for sale for the above size....!!

Chris

Richard - thats encouraging I could get some Toyos without changing my road going wheels, I've wanted to see if they feel different to the P-zeros which, to be honest, I've found to be pretty good. But comparisons are good!

Chris - your offer sounds interesting. Particularly with the wheels as well. What sort of condition are the wheels in? Do you have a picture please? When it comes to replacing the slicks how easy would it be to get some more?

Cheers.
Johnny.
