Default new tyres keep going flat !!!

hi all,

my car is a non-runner at the mo ! and i keep him locked up in my garage . to work on it i have to pull it out and push it in ! ive just fitted 4 brand new tyres and noticed over the period of about 6 weeks that they are flat !! im assuming its because the wheels are still and all the weight of the car is focused in one area of the tyres ? would this be correct ?

thanks

hello m8. i run a tyre shop and they shouldnt go down. they might need some bead seal on the rims. pop in your local tyre shop they can sort it for you.

I dry stored my scoob for 6 months a few years back- tyre pressures remained okay. As Roy says- sounds like a quick brush round with bead seal at your local tyre shop may be the order of the day.

They'll have to take the tyres off. Clean up the inside seal of the alloys.

You can get crap between the tyre and the wheel, which stops the rubber sealing properly to the alloy.

Had it done recently on the misuss's car. Cost me 15 quid for one. You could see years worth of build up from get old tyres on and off. Was mostly loads of old rubber. They just used a wire brush to clean it up.
To be honest, tyre places should do this as standard practice each time they put new ones on.

Had the same problem - took it back to the garage, they cleaned the rim and tyre, put some sort of tyre glue / sealant (looked a bit like self expanding foam) on it, and it was fine. Took them 10 mins to do two wheels.

Never had any issues after that.

it will be corrosion on the alloy where the tyre bead sits on the wheel , it is common for alloy wheels to do this , whoever fitted the tyres should have cleaned it off before fitting the new tyres

you will need the tyres taking off and the corrosion cleaning off before refitting the tyre (use bead sealer if needed)

So you and a mate fitted the tyres DIY style with bars and are now saying they keep going flat

Why not just pay £7-8 a corner or whatever it costs to have them done at a tyre place - properly, or did you do this at a mate's tyre place

Are they all doing it? Could be that the beads have been damaged if it took 3 of you on bars to fit them I had 215/35/18s on a while ago, fitted by one person. They were a tight fit though

He's been fitting tyres for 13 years using his mates and pry/crow bars.

I think he should find a new profession or train to do it with proper machinery

And you sir should do all a favour and spread your chavvy mods on Corsanet

I add plenty to these boards and it certainly isn't my fault an illiterate chav can't take a bit of banter - which it was intended as.
