Have you tried knocking a socket over the outside of the nut? It might just catch the split part enough to undo it? Worth a go imo. Never seen one of them do that before

What size socket did you use? You'll need one that looks like it'll never fit and belt it on. Failing that it'll have to be drilled off and the stud replaced.

mmm prob made it worse by splitting the nut.
This is what you need

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/pr...el-nut-remover

but not sure if it will work now that the nut is split.

Hi,

Is the nut steel or alloy ?
Hopefully it's steel, if so & if you know a friendly welder you could get them to weld standard wheel nut to it and spin it off that way using a standard wheel brace.

Or if the weld is too close the the face of the wheel for comfort you need a hollow tube (fairly thick & similar diameter of existing nut on car) about 2" long & then place the tube, end first, flush onto the nut & weld the tube to the nut from down the inside shaft (may need to use a welding rod rather than mig) then you can weld a wheel nut to the other end & spin it off.

I've seen both techniques used by a mate & both did work

Hope helps & get it sorted soon,

My advice would be to use a small chisel, use the split on the left hand side and tap it round.

Shouldnt damage the wheel further if your chisel is small enough or at a sharp enough angle.

This will almost definately work, but to save wheel damage try it on a nut you have you "mocked" up in the garage. Technique is to make small slice on face of nut and then tap round. Hope that makes sense, its easier to show than say.

Getting some heat on this first would really help a lot but that takes you into the realms of wheel damange, so probably best to dose it up with lots of release oil first

Now, if that doesnt work, make further split on the opposite side, one top and one bottom. be careful not to hit the iternal thread. Work around each one until the nut splits.

Its the internal thread thats really important ( and the wheel of course). The nut can get as mangled as you want.

One it gets started, you might be able to get enough purchase on some long nose mole wrenches for the rest of the way.

Thank you all for your help, I've done it, I hammered the socket over the top and it came off .. after a lot of work ..

The wheel is a bit poorly, but nothing a re-furb can't sort ..

So made up its done .. I can finish doing my mud flaps now ..

Thanks again.
