Default Front brakes too much!

Hi guys. Put new disks and pads all round today on my '95 wrx. Also had some carbotech pads made for the fronts because they are awesome! So I took it out to bed them in and I'm not sure if it is a good thing or a bad thing but under heavy braking the front wheels literally stop dead! However this makes it a little hairy especially as it's going to be track car. Brakes work brilliantly if u don't give them some welly! Do u think I might need a brake bias valve? Does anyone have any experience of this?

Cheers

Aaron

Got Carbotechs on my Hawk. Have the same effect the stop like hell.

My fronts are pulling up real quick as well. I'm in the great debate.

Try ringing Ian at Carbotech. He is the man in the know.

think I may end up with his rear pads as well.

Got to be the best pads I have ever had in any of my impreza's, cant recommend highly enough..

Plus - made myself sick bedding them in.... Is not a joke... pads are shockingly good. I know there are lads in the Timeattack using them..

I just put them in my mazda mx5 track car and had the same thing they just stop dead which then near sends the back end to come out. Bit scary...

Carbon based pads are unbelievably good. I ran Carbone Lorraines in my previous rally car and they were incredible compared to the nearest Pagid/Mintex/Ferodo pad. They can reach higher temperatures than any organic based compound and retain a fantastic coefficient of friction. I did some development on a 6 pot kit for a Westfield using System ST carbon discs and some Carbon Lorraine pads. 460kg, 180bhp and 6 pots meant this car could equal the braking on a F3 car.

Balance is a big thing in braking, unfortunately what you need is some better rear pads, not a bias valve, unless you want to try and restrict the front pressure to use the rears more effectively.

Got yellow stuffs on the rear of mine with godspeed discs - tbh mine doesn't throw out much just pulls the fronts up quick. Finding that I just need to be more controlled with my braking so its more my driving style that required changing...

Great advice Graham - looks like I'm heading the right way..

Yeah I find that I can be controlled and still stop the car just as quick. Smoother is always quicker round a track anyway. Cheers guys

I have had XP8's front and rear on my 04wrx for 2 years now and they have been amazing! A little slow to warm up on the road and very 'sqeeky' at slow speeds but have been brilliant on track! Only thing is they kill front disks due to the extra heat generated and you will need a good brake fluid (I use halfords dot 5.1)

Get the rears to match and I think that will solve your problem.

Honestly, they are not that good when cold - almost feels like someone has nicked the brake servo! A few short dabs of the brakes and they soon get warm enough for general road use, or get them real hot on a back road blast or trackday and the magic happens!

Not the cheapest but well worth it!

Members on the MLR use these pads a lot , but now people are trying out the new bluestuff NDX's are saying they give very similar performance , the NDX's are much better from cold and are a lot cheaper , and don't eat discs.

Cheers Ian

Haven't tried the NDX's but the carbotech's have a much better bite from cold than my yellow stuff ebc did.
By far the best pads I have had on any of my Impreza not sure about disc usage but talking to Ian at Carbotech they don't seem any worse than any other performance pad for wear.

The carbontechs and the ebc bluestuff are both good when cold. I was a bit worried about this but no probs at all.

The EBC's on my Subaru are very quiet but I get a lot of noise / squeal from the Carbotechs. Would not like to use the Carbotechs on an every day car due to the noise

The carbotech Iam using is a CT635 XP8

I have one side with anti squeal plates and one side without - it's a long story...

The side with the plates no problem but the side without makes a little noise. Nothing I am bothered about to give u an idea.

TBH they could squeal like pigs and I wouldn't care - it would be worth it,,,

Good info for me and now maybe looking into getting a set for my 1998 model, 2 pot front and single pot rear. Appreciate if someone can provide me with the part numbers for Carotech brake pads.
TIA.

Give Ian a ring at Carbotech - tell him silverfox from appletown told you to ring and he should be able to help you out with the right items. He did with mine...

I just had some made, 2 pot fronts, so he'll be able to help u out. Had the car on track today and the brakes were spot on! Did around 80 laps of brands hatch in under 3 hours and they were perfect up until the moment the engine let go! Haha

Thanks gents. I will try to contact Ian. Small problem is that I am in the far East not UK. I guess it is recommended to have both front and rear set replace with Carbotech pads.

I will be putting some in the rear next time as well.

I am sure he can do shipping at a good price.

Well worth the £'s
