Default Winding back Caliper Pistons

Hey all,

i am currently changing the disks and pads on a (cough cough) ford ka, The piston in the caliper needs winding back in to fit the new pads.

can anyone tell me how this is done?

Before anyone points I know its a Subaru site, I am getting round this by the fact I will be rebuilding my 4pots and 2pot SUBARU calipers when they get back from the spray shop, so I need to know how to put them pistons in too

Any help would be greatly appricated, I have the Ka in the air and need to get this disks and pads done asap

Big G-clamp usually does the trick.

I usually take a bit of fluid out of the resevoir to prevent it overspilling once the pistons are wound in.

Halfords sell them, never thought kas would ever need rear callipers. Is it a 1.6?
Fronts will just push in using a bar wedged in for leverage and undo the reservoir cap.

I've got one of those pad spreaders as shown in the link above. Couldn't manage without it now, especially with multi piston calipers. Cheaper from Machine Mart, who also sell a reverse impact device for extracting stubborn/jammed pads.

If you talk about winding back a piston this is normally taken to mean the complicated handbrake system in Ford rear disc brakes where you have to push the piston and rotate it at the same time to get it back down the internal handbrake screw. I've made a forked tool on the end of an old brace and bit drill to deal with these. Difficult without the right tool.

Appologies I didnt mean wind them back I ment push them.

I looked at them caliper pushers last night, nipped to halfords to get one and they didnt have them. I believe Draper sell them for about £14.00

Anyways I managed to get a G clamp and sorted it. Thank god!
