Default 20mm spacer, improve handling or NOT?

Just fitting a set of 20mm Huncentric wheel spacers with ext Studs on a newage STi, Was been told how this and that could imporve the handling, becos of wider track, after running it for a day, I completely feel the opposite, car steering feels "lazy" slow responding, Handling is the worst effected or should I say no handling of the car what so ever, feels real ****e!! is this right??

rubbing arches on the back too.. god this is gonna be the worst mod I have even done!!!

Wanna take it off but because of the ext studs do I need special wheel nuts if wanna run it without spacer?? currently running uprated TPI 33mm wheel nuts..

I tried spacers to clear brembos keeping standard wrx wheels and the judder over 50mph was terrible so they had to come off. I still have the extra long studs on though but I have open ended nuts so it isn't a problem.

Make sure you can tighten the nuts properly even if they are longer. The nuts I have are just standard nuts, nothing fancy, but open ended. Going to put the standard studs back as I'm about to get my calipers off anyway. If you put spacers on and change the set up of the car I think it stands to reason handling will suffer. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, not for a scoob anyway.

The fact you now have the wrong offset at the wheel/hub mount is why it "feels" cr4p.

You have changed the original steering geometry, in absolute terms it will have more grip.

Ok, will that mean I will need another geometry setup? After been driving it for 2 days I can understand the benefit of it slightly. But the work it needs making it right is quite costly such as coilovers, fender roll and pull or even rear camber bolt alignment etc... totally lost..

Erm... It may have more grip. It would need the geometry setup properly to be more sure of this.

A setup, especially on the front can make a lot of difference to the way the car feels.

I'd add that any looseness in the suspension is likely to be exacerbated or exagerated by fitting spacers. As you're giving the wheel a bigger lever to move the suspension around.

No, the geometry of the steering has been altered, thus losing "feel", the physical geometry of the suspension is little different.

Why would you want fit 20mm spacers if you know it fouls the arches ?

1) True, I wasn't paying attention.

2) You wouldn't unless it was solely "'cos it looks kewl, innit".
