16" non-turbo alloys on my '06 WRX?
Hi,
I am thinking of getting some 16" alloys for my 2006 Hawkeye WRX to run as winter wheels. Will some non-turbo Impreza 16" alloys fit? As far as I can tell they are 5x100 and I don't think I need spacers 'cos I don't have an STi. Also, what size of tyres will I need to keep the same circumference so that I don't need to change the speedo?
There are sets of four with (old) tyres on eBay for £290. Is that too much?
Cheers.

I have a set of Hawkeye R sport 16" alloys that fitted when I had the smaller calipers on, I havent tried them with WRX calipers but Ive been told they should fit. They are the same PDC100. Tyres you need will be 205/50/16. £290 is probably too much unless they are brand new. Where do you live?

Thanks. If they didn't fit my WRX then they would presumably fit my Legacy 2.5 as it doesn't have as powerful brakes. I live in East Lothian (work in Edinburgh).
I did think the wheels on eBay were too expensive - the guy will remove the tyres but charge the same for the wheels as he needs to get someone to take the tyres off .
Are you thinking of selling your wheels?
On the tyre size, a mate told me today that a 205/55 16 would be a better size because it would be a bit closer to the current 215/45 17. How can I check?
Cheers, Iain

The tyres I have are Michelin Primacy (not winter tyres) 205/50/16 and is the size that Subaru put on themselves. I think they are the closest to the WRX wheels. The Sport wheels read around 2mph at 70mph more than the WRX wheels.
I would consider selling but not in a rush as contemplated putting winter tyres on them myself and then putting them back on the car when selling it and selling the WRX wheels separately. I am in West Yorkshire so I dont know how much it would be to ship, quite a lot I would imagine but feel free to PM me an offer.
I can check to see if the Sport wheel fit over the WRX calipers if you would like.

just be careful that they allow clearance on the std 4pot WRX caliper as lots of std wheels dont.............the lesser" models only use a 2pot sliding caliper so very little spoke clearance required

There are load of 16" wheels from MY99-00 classic imprezas that will fit over 4 pot. OE tyre sizes for these are 205/50 but because the newage went for a larger wheel/tyre I think 205/55 would be a better fit.
You can compare the difference in speedo reading with different tyres on this site http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

As you can see they are cheap since there are so many sets lying around

Thanks, it seems like Classic WRX wheels are the way to go to ensure clearance for my WRX.
To Jay m A, I had seen the first eBay wheels but they are pickup only. I hadn't seen the second set - I think it's because they are in Car Parts category and not Wheels etc.
Am I right in thinking that the Classic WRX wheels are ET53? I am guessing that there is probably no need for a 2 mm spacer to make me up to the ET55 that is standard fit on my Hawkeye (or 2004 Legacy).

Thanks again Jay m A for keeping me right. I checked some online wheel guides and I hadn't properly read it. So if I have an ET53 instead of an ET55 the wheels will be slightly wider out (by all of 2 mm) and I'll have a wider track.
This also means that I have a good chance of using some Forester wheels as they are ET48.

Don't know if anyone's interested, but I picked up a couple of sets of Classic WRX 16 inchers - the five spokes - from eBay.
They are the same 16x7JJ width as my current wheels (17x7JJ) and they clear the WRX four-pots no bother. Now I just need to wear down the current 205/50 tyres so that I can get some 205/55 winter tyres.
Cheers.
