Having had a blinding time at Bedford over the wkend I'm of the opinion that it's time to upgrade the brakes. Thinking along the lines of APS, either 4 or 6 pots. Before I part with a large sum of wonga is there anything major I shud know with regard to day to day driving ? Cheers, James (MY00 PPP etc)

I have had AP 6-pots on my car for some time - including track days. Run with Ferodo DS2500 they are superb on both track and road. Awesome braking capability - just ask Rum* who went for a ride with me on Saturday!

The only downside I find with APs is lack of pedal feel, and the pedal can move quite a long way when they are hot - even tho they are not fading and still happily work.

Alcons from personal experience have much better pedal feel and stopping power is similar.

I think a 6-pot setup is about £1450 - £1500
Replacement 330mm Discs are £440 - £500
Pads about £190 for Pagids

Evo mentioned that Scoobysport were running good prices on Brembo 4 pots, their website has them at £1,286.00 exc VAT, the AP 6-pots at £1,499.00.

Scoobymania has the AP 4-pot kit for £1325 and 6 pot for £1495 both exc VAT.

You need to add fitting onto those costs as well I believe.

any reason why you think you need 6 pots?

dont think you need more than 4 pots. 6 pots are great for pose value.

Are the discs really that expensive?

I thought the AP advantage over the alcons was that he discs could be replaced separately and fore much less money. Since the alcons were £600 a time, I dont think £500 is a lot less.

Is this really true?

Thought I'd go for the AP six pots for a couple of reasons. General consensus on here seems to be that they are arguably the best set up. The difference in price between the four and six pots is not that great, and when I come to sell the car I'm pretty sure I won't have any trouble selling them off. And then of course there is the pose value! So that'll be four reasons..

interesting as no matter how much they are bled they still go for a softer pedal feel than the Alcons - I understand from talking to others that their experience is the same.

What do you think the cause would be?

BTW Adam would of course know that 6-pots are purely for pose valu e - thanks for the six pot pads mate

Don't know what it is - they have been bled out several times - the pedal is rock hard when it connects - but there is a fair degree of movement first - which I thought was common to all Scoobs pre 2001MY!

Obviously I am wrong although others have reported the same - and the Alcons were in a different league with no movement.

Also - if it was air then I would have thought that I would have lost the pedal on a track day - or needed to pump it - but it has been fine - just disturbed by the initial movement - but when it bites - it BITES!

have you tried clamping hoses, & letting them off 1 by 1with pedal pressurised. if it moves you have a clue if 1 or both make sure pads can move sideways freely ps sorry to take over post

Took a chap out at Millbrook in my MY01 with 6 pots straight after a run in his new jap spec sti with the Brembo's. He was convinced enough to decide to get his upgraded although I suspect the Leda suspension on my car may have improved the braking a bit as well.

Probably the only downside I have noticed is the amount of brake dust that covers the wheels!

If you want pose value visit www.kad-uk.com. I have them fitted on my car & they are awesome, if you really want pose value wait until you see the 378's to be put on mine in4-5 weeks.

OTT, of course, butt braking at the moment is phenomenal.....

Yes they do, they are called Sao Paulo.

I have the 18's though they look much larger! & they are available from Tony at ScoobySport on 01268 590085.

I think they have some coming into the country soon, but a quick call will clarify that.....(tell him I sent you!)
