Default Tyre profile

I currently have 215/45/17 was thinking of changing to 40 profile tyres what affect will this have on the speedo? will it make any difference at all?
Also will it have any other affects IE handling ride?

Hi mate I asked a question earlier on, about tyre sizes, was told 215/45 17 is ok to run. Hope this helps

As far as I understand it,

215 = mm wide
40 = 40% of the width, this is the height of the side wall
17 = rim size

so the 45 is a slightly deeper side wall

The speedo will read fast, and the car will accelerate faster, due to lower gearing...

The ride will be a touch more harsh, and the steering a touch more direct, both due to the stiffer sidewalls.

IMHO.

Only really the speedo that I'm concerned about all the others are a plus really.
The speedo reading fast will surely up the miles for actual distance?

215/40/17 is the correct size for a classic and is the closest to the overall standard size (16" wheel with 205/50/16)

Mine had speedline chronos as standard (optional extra) and they have 205/45/17 but as they need new tyres and a refurb its an opportunity to put them on 40s.
So you think it will be fine on 205/40/17 in fact better.?
