slicks without a roll cage on track days?
So I went to Marham in the weekend and was quite happily running on my used slicks (michelin ex clio cup race tyres).
Now, some people heard about me running full slicks without a cage and are essentially saying I'm living on borrowed time and there's a high risk of me becoming a KSI stat using slicks.
The theory is that if the slicks lose grip and then grip again, the car will topple over and that'll be the end of me.
Is there any basis for the above panic?
The car is an 03 wrx running on really quite stiff coil overs and a rear 22mm arb (set to hardest setting).
What do the track day drivers of scoobynet think?
My defence is that just because I'm running on full slicks doesn't mean I'm going 110% in corners... it's a simple cost decision seeing as a used set of full slicks is about 100, and that buys about half of one R888

I ran some ex-clio cup slicks at cadwell last year on a pretty standard 2004 wrx.
Only problem I had was the brake fluid boiled which I have now upgraded to 5.1.
I heard that slicks do cause quite a bit of extra stress on the drivetrain though.
Im at cadwell next month again and may give the slicks another try weather permitting. If it is a bit damp then I will run my re070, or eagle F1's if it is wet.

Yeah marham wrecked my slicks so put a new set on lol.
150mph + braking on the runway with up to temperature slicks rips your face off.
Dead impressive.
I was only getting decent performance out of them towards the middle of the day (first time on them) and the speed you can take round corners are immense.

Some track day providers will not allow you to use slicks without a cage. As above oil and fuel surge issues may need attention with extra cornering force.

slicks all the way i have a few cuts in mine just to help get some heat into them on cold or damp days . never had anyone say i couldn't run them on track days so far with no cage.always a good idea to ask when booking
