New tyres - couple of questions on profiles and fitment
Hi guys, am a newbie to all this, so thought I'd ask a couple of questions..
My potenza's are on their way out, so going to get a set of 4 new shoes...
I believe they're 225/45/17s and so my questions begin:
Heard good things about the Vreddy sessantas - unless someone cares to correct me. If I get them mail order (i.e. camskill - £329 delivered) anyone know how much a fitter would charge to fit them to the rims and balance etc etc ?
Also, I saw some discussion on changing the tyres, i.e. going for a 235/45 for argument's sake ? What determines how wide you can go ? (I know the rim itself is going to be a major factor) but is there a benefit of going wider or are there drawbacks ? Would a wider tyre protect the rim better from curbing ?
All kind of basic questions... Last time I had tyres fitted, had them done at elite in rainham. Whilst these guys were not cheap, the service was good (anyone suggest any other people around essex / east london - I'm all ears)...
thanks for the help, hopefully I wont be flamed (I know there's a few out there waiting for me!).

Ok just found this, which kind of made sense
Tire size calculator
Re: the width, but I suppose the next question would be how wide is the rim and what would it support ? I have the standard 17" STI wheels for the MY05.. help!

Great thanks mate. I will have a word with them, so aside from taking into consideration a slight speedo adjustment (according to that calc above), no real problem going wider ?!? According to that tyre calculator, if I dropped the height from a 45 to a 40, it would bring things back into sync a little more ?
So 8" rims = 203.2mm, so what do you think the max I could run would be ? (Not pushing my luck, if I was that bothered, I'd grab a set of 18" or 19"s). Just curious what the practical limits are ? Also assuming the more obscure the size, the more they're going to pull my pants down on the price !!!!
Sorry for questions !
