Default wider wheels & handling Q's?

Hi

What size rims are best for handling on an impreza 17'? 17x? Got 18x7.5j atm and they dont look too shabby but still quite skinny!

Whats the widest wheels you can get on an impreza without HUGE are mods? Im having my arches rolled shortly to accomodate bigger stuff underneath + i eventually want some wider track rims too, probably 17's and quite wide!

No real need to go over 8J with 235 as a maximum tyre width. Once you go over a good size there is little extra grip which you or the car will need, but other handling irregularities will creep in. Heavier steering, tramlining, less feel. I think 7.5J with 225's is the best set up, 17's on classic, 18's on new-age. Get rid of body roll (ARB's) and make sure the alignment is spot-on, and don't get the suspension so stiff that it's twitchy, it should flow through the bends.

want it handling sweet for scoobysprint next season i think..if it lives that long! lol

8j we think will cut it with 235 888's or something? ARB's are already on, 22mm front, 24mm rear, alloy drop links done, steering rack bushes done, ohlins shocks + tein springs

should be alright?

I was told by Bill Gwynne that you dont need to go wider than 7.5 x 17 on a road car.

I'm on 8.5" rims with 235s which looks pretty cool. i'd of loved to of tried 245s but i recon they'd rub on the arches

17x9's would fit fine with a rolled arch, maybe a little pull. not much work needed.

Yes, so 18x 7.5j for the road

and wider wheels for track use, they are two different things

i never said it was a track car

Lol, some peoples responses are ridiculous.

He has 18x7.5 for his road set up. And wants something wider FOR the track.

Easy enough to understand? Lol.

You should sign up to NASIOC.com, there are some real experts on there when it comes to widths, what works, what will handle etc. Really friendly bunch too!
