Default Classic 17" wheels

Did classics (JDM or UK) ever get 17" wheels as an option and if so what were the biggest brakes that could be fitted under them.

cheers

Yep 17's were an option and also standard on some models, e.g P1, RB5. They'll accommodate a Godspeed big brake upgrade.

But speak to Ian about this

Cheers i completely forgot about the UK specials doh.
Just that i'm buying a later model classic import and wondering whether to stick with 16s and his 308mm kit or goto 17s and the kit you mentioned or upgrade the calipers to Brembos.

My UK classic runs on 04 WRX 17's in bronze, or gunmetal or somesuch, not silver anyway

It has Godspeed Brembos on the front with 330mm discs and Godspeed Kevlar pads, and STi Brembos on the rear with STi discs and the Godspeed handbrake adaptors and Brembo fitting kit.

Stops PRETTY well.

17's are nice on a classic use to have the Prodrive PD7's fitted back in 2001 to my sonic blue turbo (in antracite), looked the bee's knees
