Unhappy Wheel vibration and smoking brakes

Hi,

I need help and quick.

I've decided to put the Scooby up for sale due to lack of use and impending arrival of a TVR T350. Anyway the car hasn’t been driven for a few weeks and I have somebody coming to look at the car next week. So I took it out for a blast and as I was warming the car up I noticed vibration through the steering wheel, this got worse as I applied the brakes.

Anyway I plodded on and it got worse and worse, I'm thinking oh no feels like a warped disk. I had warped disks on my EVO VI but there wasn’t any vibration until I applied the brakes, the scoob has vibration and is worse at lower speeds.

When I applied the brakes hard it didn’t feel like the car was pulling to one side. However there was a smell of burning so I returned home. When I got home there was smoke pouring out of the left hand side front wheel and both front wheels were very hot to touch.

I'm thinking either:

Warped disks
Binding calliper
Wheel bearings

Anybody on here have any other suggestions?

Cheers in advance.

Sounds like a warped disks to me... when you left it for a few weeks, did you leave the hand brake on? Did you use the brakes hard before putting it away?

The hand brake was left on, can't remember braking hard the last time I used it.

Cheers for the replies; looks like wheels off tomorrow. Any quick fixes, don't really want to take it to a garage if I can help it.

Check inside surface of disk, I had problems with 'warped' disks but there were patches of pad material on the surface. These can be rubbed off. I replaced the disks anyway as I had assumed they had warped, but I'll be cleaning the original set up for use again.

An outside possibility, if the cars been standing for a few weeks in wet weather check for rust around the edge (circumference) of the disc. I've know this happen before, causing the disc to rub the caliper when very hot, as the rust can add a good few mm to the diameter of the disc, coupled with heat expansion = rubbing/noise.

Easily fixed by 'lightly' tapping rust with a hammer- it just fall away (wear eye protection..!)

Just an outside thought..
