Rear brake options
Currently run KAD 6 pot fronts 330mm and the standard single pot rears on a 1997 WRX used for hillclimbs. Braking performance is good but the car really stands on its nose and i do not need this on a hillclimb, just smooth even braking.
A competitor of mine took it for a spin yesterday and commented that I must upgrade the rear to something better as this was really upsetting the car balance under brakin and remove the servo.
Suggested maximum of 300mm. I have seen an AP kit from TSL which is 4 pot and 300mm. Anyone got these or any other suggestions?

If its a lightweight stripped out classic the later 2 pot rears should be good enough with some decent pads, or if you wanted bigger a newage STi rear brembo kit. Not sure of your budget but could be worth a look to keeps costs down over a dedicated kit from AP.

AP did them for the "show car" brigade who like a matching set, unless you are tracking a heavy-weight car IMHO they would be overkill.
STI rear Brembos, seem a decent compromise !

Thanks, I wondered whether the APs are overkill as the car does not need more stopping power, although a nice big set of rear brakes look good. Car is stripped about 1150kilos plus driver.
If I recall Ian Godney does a kit for this. Anyone else?

I have the Godspeed 335mm front kit on my classic, and just recently fitted the rear 2 pot conversion with Godspeed discs and Kevlar pads and i am well pleased with it, the rear brakes are well matched to the front and the car pulls up really well. Definately recommended, as is the service from Ian at Godspeed

Obviously if you over brake the rears , it would uspet the ballance , but if done right it will be fantastic , I am amazed everytime I drive a car with our 6 pot front and 4 pots rear , no matter how brave I am going into roundabouts I always brake too soon and come up short.
It will make it better the steps you take , from fitting the Subaru 2 pot calipers , to the Brembo 2 pots , and onto the AP 4 pot kit.

I can supply you a complete brembo rear kit including reconditioned rear brembo 2 pot calipers , new grooved 316mm discs , pads , rear fitting kit and handbrake shoes for £595
Or 325mm 2 piece grooved discs and bells , AP 4 pot calipers ,pads and fitting kit for £895

Ok thanks, I wil get back to you next week as i want to have something for next hillclimb in June. Off to pick up my car now as broke a rear axle yesterday when launching. hillcimb tomorrow

P.S. My 2002 isn't light, but the original rear brakes are hardly worn after 45,000 miles.

Sti brembo rear setup together with a decent brake bias valve, worked wonders on my wagon in Time Attack.
It used to stand on its nose with full weight, AP 6 pot 330 up front and MY00 uk rear brakes in 2007.
I ditched the ABS unit, put newage sti brembos on the rear with new discs and pads, and a brake bias valve. Even with weight removed from the rear, it is now very balanced under braking, and thats from 160mph in 6th to a 3rd gear 50mph corner.
Do you have a brake bias valve on your current setup, as that may be the cheapest option initially, and if it still isnt perfect, it will be a good investment going forward IMO.

I will also be getting a brake bias valve at the same time. In the end will most likely go for AP setup as £300 difference is not too bad.
However will have to delay purchase as more urgent replacment of centre diff is required as found out on hillclimb yesterday.
