Wheel Bearings
Advice needed on a 52 plate sti prodrive, I've got a wowing on the rear and my first thought was, WHEEL BEARING, however, a guy said make sure your tyres are ok. They look ok to me but not sure what to look for, any ideas?

What do you mean by a wowing, mate. A worn wheel bearing will make a drone when it first shows itself. Bob

Yeah more of a drone but i've gone round corners to see if I can get it to change tone to see which bearing it is but I cant work out which it is. So i'm just wandering if its the diff

You need a black box handy if you do that, as the "ABS light" will activate when the ecu detects different wheel speeds.... Look for an eccentric wobble on the wheel affected.

it can be really hard to identify which side sometimes. simply jacking up and wobbling wheel wont show any play either.
strip off the brake disc/drum and quickly bung on a wheel to hub and its a whole different matter, very easily found then.

As Tanyatriangles said mate.
Take it to a garage with a single/twin post lift, the one that lifts the car by the chassis, not the four post type you drive on to.
Lift the car, run the engine and select 2nd or 3rd.
The garage boys will tell you where the whining (probably rattling when in the air) is coming from, they will have done this countless times. Bung them 20 quid for their time and it will keep them sweet for the next time, and save you a fortune changing the wrong parts.

When the NSR wheel bearing on my 03STi failed it made a woo woo sort of noise similar to your description rather than a rumble. Conversly I've just had a rear w/b go on my Focus runabout and that did rumble.
I'd put money on it being a w/b and you should get it replaced asap as it will eventually damage the hub and cost more to fix.
