Default No Brakes after Hard Acceleration

As above..... Brakes are great in general use and abuse, but if you launch from a junction turning right or at a round about (obviously going right as well) when you immediately apply the brakes the pedal goes almost to the floor with hardly any stopping power. The pedal needs to be pumped until they are back to normal.

The fluid has been flushed properly twice (5.1) and this makes no difference.

Please help, I dont want to be caught out when I really need my brakes.

sounds more like you are getting pad 'knock-off' possibly caused by a wheel bearing issue??

No brake fade would happen after giving the brakes a caning , if its happening after launching and hard cornering I would also look at the wheel bearings.

Jack it up , hold the top and bottom of the tyre and and see of there is any movement there.

Cheers Ian

While you have the wheel off check to see how tight the main BIG nut is, this can give a indication of wear/worn bearings

Thanks guys, definately not brake-fade, its got to be something to do with the hub, nut or bearing.
Without sounding like a donkey, would I be looking at the passenger wheel or the drivers..... .....I should probably check both.

I'm having a very similar problem, but (knowing next to bugger all) I'd presumed it to be a servo problem (poss vac related?). It ONLY happens after giving the car lots of hoof, and then only the once, as you say. A quick pump and they're back to normal, though under 'normal' driving they're fine.

Car's going down to the Clinic this week for an unrelated problem, so I'll have them check it out and keep you informed of the findings.

Hey up mate, the unlucky thing is Ive just had my Geom done on Sat by the clinic and if it is my bearings that'll be a big fat waste of money.
Let me know how you get on that would be great!

My car had the same problem, it turned out the drivers side hub nut was loose by just one turn that was causing the issue!

I'll let you off, now go and look in a technical manual somewhere to make up for your badness.

Cheers Ian

Edited to add that the rears are also the same torque settings

Sorry, too busy getting the bad news from Rick at REMotorsport....

Mine's dead Jim !

More money on non-shinny bits ! I could see the wheel wobbling as it spun up on the ramps and Rick did the famous screwdriver pose !

Oh dear Dunx, that will be costly. Yeah should have known those wheels would be bullet proof.

Checked my driveshaft nuts out and all is tight, and no play in the wheel whatsoever, I should get it checked out properly by a garage me thinks.

Check that the oneway valve in the vacuum hose from the inlet manifold. When I replaced the hose with a Samco hose that didnot have this valve after hard acceleration followed by immediate braking the symptoms where the same as you are getting. If I paused for a second before using the brakes evertything was fine. Worth a try before shelling out on garage labour. Hope this solves the problem steve.
