Default Spacesaver larger than actual wheel?

Thiose who read my post recently about the calssic sopacesaver NOT fitting over STi Brembos will know my problem

Anyway, I sourced a spacesaver from a 2007 STi.

When it arrived, it looked massive, so I measured it.

My car is on WRX 17" wheels and across the Toyos, (215/40 17"), is 23.5".
The new wheel is 17" OK, but has a 155/70 17" tyre, which measures 24.5" across the tyre.

So, a question: how much damage will it do the car if I have to use it, on, say, the rear?

Viscous diff? Its not desirable, but itll get you home. Its not as hard on the car as a long corner (say: Nardo!)...

B*llox! sh*t! ****! No prizes for guessing the outcome of THAT

So.......back to plan "A", a standard 17" WRX wheel with a 215/40 17" tyre. Good job I happen to have a spare WHEEL in the garage; now, where to get a tyre at short notice?

Mrs will LOVE the lack of boot space...........NOT!!!

I guess the spacesaver will be on e-bay in Sept when I get back from the French house.

My suggestion would be to keep the std space saver and in the unlikely event of a puncture on the front, put the space saver on the rear and the rear wheel on the front to replace the flat one. Bit of a faff at the side of the road but better than the aggro you've been through already and the compromised boot space...

That's how I USED to do it..........before fitting STi Brembos on the rear

Thanks for the thought.

Treat your tyres Jeff, very very slim chance of a puncture then. Im talking about the stuff that LPG firms use when they put a gas tank in your spare wheel well.

More money I know, but the spacesaver for the newage STI's pre MY05 should do it.
