Default looking for help on picking new brakes.

Guys,

Looking at getting new Disks and pads for my 06 STi, only got about £400 tops for both, its down to a few different ones.also would braided hoses make a difference????,only do about 6k a year and no trackdays as of yet, only spirited road driving sometimes.

Brake Disk options:
1.Brembo Drilled
2.Black Diamond Drilled and grooved
3.EBC Grooved

Pad Options:
1. Ferodo ds2500 or whatever they are called, lol
2.Brembo Standard
3.Black diamond (not predator)
4.EBC Yellow stuff

Thanks in advance guys,opinions welcome

Cool

Just been looking myself at these and scoobyworld do Brembo drilled at £199 and Brembo pads at £109.. seems a good price but maybe try ian @ godspeedbrakes as hes always been helpfull to me in the past, and those 2 Piece discs looks really nice :-)

I would not go for EBC or Diamond on an Sti... i have tried Ebc on my last subaru and they were not good, many many years ago i had Black Diamond but again was not impressed. However when Ian sorted me a few years back with DS2500 pads and I think it was Tarox Discs they were the best of the bunch. So i would go with Brembo/Bremo or Brembo/Ds2500

Il be interested to see what others say as im wanting to upgrade to Brembo Callipers if i find them at the right price!

Bite the bullet and go for Performance Friction, they are awesome, with some ducts for cooling some S'netters would say as good as AP brakes !
Eh ? (D1CCY !)

Thanks for the replies guys,

thought about the Tarox sport japan as well, they are within price range, also Dunx thanks but unless there is a bit of a discount i could stretch to £500,i reckon that it still would not be enough and could they be to good???

sounds daft i know but my day to day comute it only 3 miles aeach way, the engine is not even warm and i save the speedy stuff for the weekend if you know what i mean!!.

I'm old and slow !
but stopping in time is priceless....

Seriously mine are so good they out grip my road legal slicks in the dry, it's amazing.
Check out BOB'5 in trader section.... £560 with pads is less than standard Subaru parts cost !

Only advice...

Dunx is right. I have AP 6 pots (and they are very good) but with hindsight could have saved a lot by keeping brembo calipers and getting PF set up as just as good. Mate has PFs and I've driven it so I have back to back experience.

Avoid drilled discs as they are prone to cracking if given a hard time. Avoid OE brembo pads as a lot better can be had for less money (Ferodo, Pagid, or PF).

Cheers, Diccy.

Just to give you another option , I can supply you grooved one piece discs for £195 a pair, we also offer 2 piece discs and bell which we normally sell for £350 a pair , but there is a group buy on for the 2 piece discs at the moment , they are £300 a pair if there are at least 5 orders , all our discs have a 12 month guarantee against warping even if you do track days which no one else offers.

I can supply you a range of pads , Mintex , Ferodo , Pagid , PF , Performance Pads start at £100

Call me on 01656 723060 for more info.

Cheers Ian

Brembo calipers are very good, though discs are not amazing. EBC ok for road use not for trackdays.

Which discs depend on budget & use, the choices are endless.
Talking baout Endless, I have tried various pads on cars inc Brembo & EBC redstuff. EBC redstuff is better than Brembo & good for road use, not track. Ferrodo Ds2500 are very good all round though can squeal a bit & are not cheap. I have heard good things about Endless pads which are also priced competetively. IMO the best thing to do if on resonable budget is to get Endles SSV pads on front & SSS on back, as SSS are cheaper & you dont need SSV on back as most braking will be on front wheels.

Mine ! ! You need to do a search on Dynamix !
He does the 100 laps and no fade workout !

That's impressive...

TBH I don't think you'll be disappointed.

DunxC

P.S. I don't mind recommending decent gear even if it isn't the cheapest !

I got EBC discs and pads for my scoob, and i'm very disappointed with them. Any more than 2 mins of abuse and they are useless...absolutely no brakes at all. I've still got the earliest 2 pot calipers on mine though, so it will be largely down to that I think, and yours will be alot better whatever you put on them.

hmmmmm, maybe i`ve picked this up wrong, so the STi fitment (subaru/brembo calipers with pf discs and pads) would be better than the PF discs and pads with APs? ?

excuse the questions im not really clued up on the braking side of things

no not comparing them, just making sure that people realise that the STi fitment discs /pads are exclusively for that car..............

but PF do pads and rotors to fit various AP kits also
