Recommend me some brakes
Ok i have got a uk classic and i will be looking to upgrade the front brakes in the near future due to one of the calipers sticking. At the moment i have the standard two pots and have been looking at going to the Subaru four pots but then thought lets have a look at what else is available and have found loads of options and kind of got a little lost.
The engine in the car is standard at the moment but will be looking at more power when i have sorted the brakes then the handling also the car is fitted with 17"Inovit Tarmacs so the brakes will need to fit under these. Have seen a few classics about with Brembos on which i have been told are a direct fit from a later model impreza just not sure which one and have also been looking at K.sport, Hi spec, AP, Alcon and Tarox. Whitch ones would you go for????? Don't want to be spending stupid money but dont mind bashing the credit card if one product comes highly recommended.

I think i would advise getting the Subaru 4pots first, then if you find you still need more, get the Godspeed 335mm kit, which then uses those calipers...... very good brakes for not a huge price!!

Been looking into getting some 4 pots maybe round about £200 off flea bay then getting the Godspeed big disc conversion at £635 but then thought thats £835 is it worth waiting a bit longer and saving a bit more and get a full aftermarket set up?????Dont know what to do

It also depends on what useage you're aiming to give the brakes, if you're gonna do regular track days, then wait and get AP, if the 'odd' track day, then get the 4 pots, see how you get on with them for a while, cos they themselves will be an improvement over the 2 pots, if you want more, then again you have a choice, cos the 4 pots will pretty much always be worth what you pay for them......
If you decide you want more than the 4 pots, then re-asses your needs at that time.... things change, you may find you like track days, or you may find you don;t..... who knows!!

First question I have for the poster is, do you plan on tracking the car? Or are the brake upgrade for looks?
I'd say if you're simply looking for better performance, sample other brake pads and rotors to see how much improvement you'll obtain.
Next, if you need more brake performance, try SS braided lines and better fluids.
If after having done the above upgrade you still need more. Then I'd say, look for a big brake kit.
Keep in mind that most BBK will require you to buy larger diameter wheels and tires. and once you switched, harder to go back on smaller wheels if you swap for winter tires.
Good luck.
